SAFETY INFORMATION
Please read, understand, and follow all safety information contained in these instructions prior to the use of this Vertical
System. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
These instructions must be provided to the user of this equipment. Retain these instructions for future reference.
Intended Use:
This Vertical System is intended for use as part of a complete personal fall protection system.
Use in any other application including, but not limited to, material handling, recreational or sports related activities, or other activities not
described in the Product Instructions, is not approved by 3M and could result in serious injury or death.
This device is only to be used by trained users in workplace applications.
!WARNING
This Flexible Cable/Rigid Rail System is part of a personal fall protection system. It is expected that all users be fully trained in the
safe installation and operation of their personal fall protection system. Misuse of this device could result in serious injury or
death. For proper selection, operation, installation, maintenance, and service, refer to these Product Instructions and all manufacturer
recommendations, see a supervisor, or contact 3M Technical Service.
To reduce the risks associated with working with a Flexible Cable/Rigid Rail System which, if not avoided, could result
in serious injury or death:
- Inspect all components of the system before each use, at least annually, and after any fall event. Inspect in accordance with the
Product Instructions.
- If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition in a component of the system, remove the component from service and
destroy it.
- Any Flexible Cable/Rigid Rail System that has been subject to fall arrest or impact force must be immediately removed from
service and all components must be inspected by a Competent Person prior to being used again.
- Do not connect to the system while it is being installed.
- Ensure the system is appropriately rated for the number of simultaneous users.
- When unpacking the cable it may rapidly uncoil. Use proper safety procedures and appropriate personal protective equipment
when unpacking cable.
- Only use approved connectors to attach body harness to the system. Do not use any additional connecting devices.
- Use only cable specied and approved in the Product Instructions.
- Do not interfere with the locking action of the shuttle/sleeve device. Only manipulate the device to attach and detach from the
system.
- Always maintain three points of contact while climbing. Refer to the Product Instructions for further information on proper
climbing technique.
- Ensure that fall protection systems/subsystems assembled from components made by dierent manufacturers are compatible
and meet the requirements of applicable standards, including the ANSI Z359 or other applicable fall protection codes, standards,
or requirements. Always consult a Competent and/or Qualied Person before using these systems.
To reduce the risks associated with working at height which, if not avoided, could result in serious injury or death:
- Ensure your health and physical condition allow you to safely withstand all of the forces associated with working at height.
Consult with your doctor if you have any questions regarding your ability to use this equipment.
- Never exceed allowable capacity of your fall protection equipment.
- Never exceed maximum free fall distance of your fall protection equipment.
- Do not use any fall protection equipment that fails pre-use or other scheduled inspections, or if you have concerns about the use
or suitability of the equipment for your application. Contact 3M Technical Services with any questions.
- Some subsystem and component combinations may interfere with the operation of this equipment. Only use compatible
connections. Consult 3M prior to using this equipment in combination with components or subsystems other than those described
in the User Instructions.
- Use extra precautions when working around moving machinery (e.g. top drive of oil rigs), electrical hazards, extreme
temperatures, chemical hazards, explosive or toxic gases, sharp edges, or below overhead materials that could fall onto you or
your fall protection equipment.
- Use Arc Flash or Hot Works devices when working in high heat environments.
- Avoid surfaces and objects that can damage the user or equipment.
- Ensure there is adequate fall clearance when working at height.
- Never modify or alter your fall protection equipment. Only 3M or parties authorized in writing by 3M may make repairs to the
equipment.
- Prior to use of fall protection equipment, ensure a rescue plan is in place which allows for prompt rescue if a fall incident occurs.
- If a fall event occurs, immediately seek medical attention for the worker who has fallen.
- Do not use a body belt for fall arrest applications. Use only a Full Body Harness.
- Minimize swing falls by working as directly below the anchorage point as possible.
- If training with this device, a secondary fall protection system must be utilized in a manner that does not expose the trainee to
an unintended fall hazard.
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment when installing, using, or inspecting the device/system.

;Prior to installation and use of this equipment, record the product identication information from the ID label in the
Inspection and Maintenance Log (Table 2) at the back of this manual.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Figure 1 illustrates the 3M™ DBI-SALA® Lad-Saf™ Ladder Safety System. The Lad-Saf Ladder Safety System is designed
to protect a worker in the event of a fall while climbing a xed ladder or similar climbing structure. The Lad-Saf System is
comprised of the Top Bracket, a wire cable, the Cable Sleeve, the Cable Guide, the System Tag, and the Bottom Bracket. The
Top Bracket (A) is secured at the top of the ladder and anchors the Cable (B) in coordination with the Bottom Bracket (F), which
is secured at the bottom of the ladder. The Cable Sleeve (C) moves up and down the Cable with the user and attaches to the
frontal D-Ring of the user’s harness. The Cable Guide (D) ensures that the Cable remains in place. The System Tag (E) displays
important safety information and should be placed at a point on or near the system. The System Tag is visible as Label “F” in
Figure 10.
Figure 2 illustrates components of the Lad-Saf X2 Cable Sleeve. The Cable Sleeve is comprised of the Upper Roller, the Rotating
Side Plate, the Handle, the Sleeve Body, the Locking Lever, the Lower Roller, the Carabiner, and the Locking Cam. The Upper
Roller (A) secures the Cable Sleeve to the Cable in coordination with the Lower Roller (F). The Rotating Side Plate (B) and
Handle (C) open to allow placement of the Cable Sleeve on the Cable. The Sleeve Body (D) makes up the main structure of the
Cable Sleeve. The Locking Lever (E) locks the Cable Sleeve and prevents unintentional opening of the device. The Locking Cam
(H) holds the Cable Sleeve in place when locked. The Carabiner (G) attaches to the front D-Ring of the user’s harness.

Capacity: Each user must have a combined weight (clothing, tools, etc.) of 88 lb. to 310 lb. (40 kg to 140
kg). The Lad-Saf System may have up to four simultaneous users, but each Lad-Saf X2 Vertical
Cable Safety Sleeve may have only one user attached. For additional users, additional Cable
Sleeves must be used.

Standards: The Lad-Saf X2 Vertical Cable Safety Sleeve and System have been tested in accordance with the
standards identied on the front cover of these User Instructions.
Cable Specications: The Lad-Saf X2 Cable Sleeve may only be used with a 5/16 in. (8 mm) or 3/8 in. (9.5 mm)
diameter solid core cable. Use with any other cable is prohibited and could result in serious injury

1.0 PRODUCT APPLICATION
1.1 PURPOSE: The Lad-Saf™ Ladder Safety System is part of a personal fall protection system. When used in combination
with the Lad-Saf™ Detachable Cable Sleeve, the Lad-Saf Ladder Safety System is designed to protect a worker in the
event of a fall while climbing a xed ladder or similar climbing structure.
; Fall Arrest Only: Do not use the Lad-Saf Ladder Safety System for any purpose other than Fall Arrest.
1.2 STANDARDS: Your Ladder Safety System conforms to the national or regional standard(s) identied on the front cover
of these instructions. If this product is resold outside the original country of destination, the re-seller must provide these
instructions in the language of the country in which the product will be used.
1.3 SUPERVISION: Use of the Lad-Saf Ladder Safety System must be supervised by a Competent Person1. Installation of
the Lad-Saf Ladder Safety System must be supervised by a Qualied Person2.
1.4 TRAINING: The Lad-Saf Ladder Safety System must be installed and used by persons trained in its correct application.
This manual is to be used as part of an employee training program as required by national, regional, or local standards.
It is the responsibility of the installers of this equipment to ensure they are familiar with these instructions, trained in
the correct care and use of this equipment, and are aware of the operating characteristics, application limitations, and
consequences of improper use of this equipment.
1.5 RESCUE PLAN: When using this equipment and connecting subsystem(s), the employer must have a rescue plan and
the means at hand to implement and communicate that plan to users, authorized persons3, and rescuers4. A trained, on-
site rescue team is recommended. Team members should be provided with the equipment and techniques to perform a
successful rescue. Training should be provided on a periodic basis to ensure rescuer prociency.
1.6 INSPECTION FREQUENCY:
The Ladder Safety System shall be inspected by the user before each use and, additionally,
by a competent person other than the user at intervals of no longer than one year.

Inspection procedures are described in
the “Inspection and Maintenance Log”. Results of each Competent Person inspection should be recorded on copies of the
“Inspection and Maintenance Log”.
1.7 AFTER A FALL: If the Lad-Saf System is subjected to the forces of arresting a fall, it must be removed from service
immediately and clearly marked “DO NOT USE”. The Lad-Saf Cable Safety Sleeve and System must then be destroyed or
forwarded to 3M for replacement.
2.0 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
2.1 ANCHORAGE: Anchorage requirements vary with the fall protection application. Structure on which the
Ladder Safety System is placed or mounted must meet the Anchorage specications dened in Table 1.
2.2 HAZARDS: Use of this equipment in areas with environmental hazards may require additional precautions to prevent
injury to the user or damage to the equipment. Hazards may include, but are not limited to: heat, chemicals, corrosive
environments, high voltage power lines, explosive or toxic gases, moving machinery, sharp edges, or overhead materials
that may fall and contact the user or Personal Fall Arrest System.
2.3 CLIMB ASSIST COMPATIBILITY: Do not use a Powered Climb Assist (PCA) with a 3M Climbing Ladder Fall Arrest System
(CLFAS), including the Lad-Saf Vertical Lifeline System and Lad-Saf X2, X3 or X3+ Detachable Cable Sleeves, unless the PCA has
been veried by 3M as being compatible with 3M’s CLFAS. Failure to comply with this warning could result in a user’s fall not being
safely arrested in the event of a fall from height while using incompatible PCA and CLFAS systems. Contact 3M Technical Service at

; Use of Climb Assist Systems that are not compatible with 3M Vertical Systems could result in serious injury or death.
2.4 COMPONENT COMPATIBILITY: 3M equipment is designed for use with 3M approved components and subsystems only.
Substitutions or replacements made with non-approved components or subsystems may jeopardize compatibility of
equipment and may aect the safety and reliability of the complete system.
2.5 CONNECTOR COMPATIBILITY: Connectors are considered to be compatible with connecting elements when they
have been designed to work together in such a way that their sizes and shapes do not cause their gate mechanisms to
inadvertently open regardless of how they become oriented. Contact 3M if you have any questions about compatibility.
Connectors (hooks, carabiners, and D-rings) must be capable of supporting at least 5,000 lbf (22.2 kN). Connectors
must be compatible with the anchorage or other system components. Do not use equipment that is not compatible.
Non-compatible connectors may unintentionally disengage (see Figure 4). Connectors must be compatible in size, shape,
and strength. If the connecting element to which a snap hook or carabiner attaches is undersized or irregular in shape,
a situation could occur where the connecting element applies a force to the gate of the snap hook or carabiner (A). This
force may cause the gate to open (B), allowing the snap hook or carabiner to disengage from the connecting point (C).
Self-locking snap hooks and carabiners are required by ANSI Z359 and OSHA.
1 Competent Person: A person who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary,
hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
2  Qualied Person: A person with a recognized degree, certicate or professional standing, or who by extensive knowledge, training and experience, has
successfully demonstrated his ability to solve or resolve problems relating to fall protection and rescue systems to the extent required by OSHA or other applicable
federal, state, and local regulations.
3  Authorized Person: A person assigned by the employer to perform duties at a location where the person will be exposed to a fall hazard.
4 Rescuer: Person or persons other than the rescue subject acting to perform an assisted rescue by operation of a rescue system.
5 Inspection Frequency: Extreme working conditions (harsh environments, prolonged use, etc.) may require increasing the frequency of Competent Person
inspections.

2.6 MAKING CONNECTIONS: Snap hooks and carabiners used with this equipment must be self-locking. Ensure all
connections are compatible in size, shape and strength. Do not use equipment that is not compatible. Ensure all
connectors are fully closed and locked.
3M connectors (snap hooks and carabiners) are designed to be used only as specied in each product’s user’s instructions.
See Figure 5 for examples of inappropriate connections. Do not connect snap hooks and carabiners:
A. To a D-ring to which another connector is attached.
B. In a manner that would result in a load on the gate. Large throat snap hooks should not be connected to standard
size D-rings or similar objects which will result in a load on the gate if the hook or D-ring twists or rotates, unless the
snap hook complies is equipped with a 3,600 lb (16 kN) gate. Check the marking on your snap hook to verify that it
is appropriate for your application.
C. In a false engagement, where features that protrude from the snap hook or carabiner catch on the anchor, and
without visual conrmation seems to be fully engaged to the anchor point.
D. To each other.
E. Directly to webbing or rope lanyard or tie-back (unless the manufacturers instructions for both the lanyard and
connector specically allows such a connection).
F. To any object which is shaped or dimensioned such that the snap hook or carabiner will not close and lock, or that
roll-out could occur.

3.0 INSTALLATION
;For more information on Lad-Saf System installation procedures, refer to the product Installation Instructions. See
IFU 5908282 or IFU 5903435 for more information.
3.1 PLANNING: Plan your use of the Lad-Saf Ladder Safety System before starting work. Account for all factors that may
aect your safety before, during, and after a fall. Consider all requirements, limitations, and specications dened in
Section 2 and Table 1.
Ensure the system is rated for the required number of users.
There are hazards associated with connecting and disconnecting from the system. Use secondary fall arrest
protection. Ensure adequate anchor points, landing platforms, or other means are available at connection and
disconnection points to allow safe transitions to and from the system.
A minimum fall clearance of 7.0 ft. (2.0 m) is required between the user’s feet and surface below. The user may not
be protected against hitting the ground or landing during the rst 7.0 ft. (2.0 m) of ascent or last 7.0 ft. (2.0 m) of
descent. Use proper climbing procedures (e.g. maintain three points of contact with hands and feet) when ascending
or descending any portion of the ladder unprotected by the Lad-Saf System.
Use proper safety procedures when climbing. Do not carry tools or equipment by hand. Keep your hands free for
climbing. Secure carried items to avoid dropping them on climbers below. Climb within your ability. Long climbs may
require several rest stops during ascent or descent to avoid exhaustion. Use proper work positioning equipment for
rest breaks. Do not climb in high winds or severe weather.
Ensure only one user is climbing between cable guides.
3.2 CONNECTING THE CABLE SLEEVE TO THE CARRIER CABLE: The Lad-Saf X2 Vertical Cable Safety Sleeve must be
connected to a 3M Lad-Saf Ladder Safety System to be used. See Figure 7 for reference. To connect the Lad-Saf X2 Cable
Sleeve to the carrier cable of the Lad-Saf System:
1. Position the sleeve so that the the “up” arrow on the sleeve (I) is pointing to the ascending direction.
2. Rotate the locking lever (E) to the unlocked position. Figure 3 shows locked (A) and unlocked (B) locking lever
positions. The locking lever is on both sides of the detachable cable sleeve for both right and left hand operation.
3. Pull back on the rotating side plate (B) to its furthest position. Once the rotating side plate is in its furthest
rotated position, the locking lever (E) may be released. The locking cam (H) will be fully extended.
4. Rotate the handle (C) to its full upright position. This will allow the locking cam to drop out of the way in order
to install the sleeve on the cable.
5. Hold the sleeve upright and insert the cable (J) through the slot on the side of the sleeve with a lifting
motion upwards. Position the cable in the sleeve recess. Release the handle (C), rotating side plate (B) and locking
lever (E) to lock the sleeve on the cable. Ensure the locking lever (E) is in the locked position before use.
3.3 CONNECTING THE CABLE SLEEVE TO THE HARNESS: Connection between the Cable Sleeve and the Full Body
Harness may be done before or after the Cable Sleeve has been installed onto the Lad-Saf System. A secondary Fall
Protection system is recommended when connecting to or disconnecting from the Lad-Saf System. Handling the sleeve
during ascent or descent exposes the user to fall hazards. The Lad-Saf System must have a maximum angle of 15° from
vertical at all times during use.
;Do not use other connecting devices or combine devices (e.g. Lanyard) with the connector supplied with Cable
Sleeve. Always use the carabiner connector supplied with the Cable Sleeve during use. Do not substitute with other
connectors.
ASCENDING: To ascend the structure climb up while maintaining three points of contact at all times (with hands and
feet). The Lad-Saf X2 Cable Sleeve will follow the climber. The carrier cable is snapped out of the cable guides as they
are encountered. Do not handle or remove the sleeve from the carrier cable when passing the cable guides or
if the sleeve locks.
DESCENDING: To descend the structure, climb down smoothly while maintaining three points of contact at all times
(with hands and feet). Allow the Lad-Saf X2 Cable Sleeve to “lead” the climber down. Climbing down out of position
(e.g., leaning back excessively or climbing erratically) may cause the sleeve to lock onto the carrier cable. If the sleeve
locks, climb upward slightly to allow the sleeve to unlock and then continue to descend the structure. Reconnect the
carrier cable into the cable guides after passing each cable guide. Do not handle or remove the sleeve from the
carrier cable when passing the cable guides or if the sleeve locks.
DISCONNECT: When climbing is completed, disconnect the Cable Sleeve from the system. See Figure 2 for
component references.
1. Remove the sleeve from the cable by rotating the Locking Lever (E).
2. Pull back on the Side Plate (B) and pivot the Handle (C) to its full upright position.
3. the sleeve can now be removed from the cable and be properly stored.
4.0 USE
4.1 BEFORE EACH USE: Verify that your work area and Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) meet all criteria dened in
Section 2 and that a formal Rescue Plan is in place. Inspect the Lad-Saf System per the ‘User’ inspection points dened
on the “Inspection and Maintenance Log” (Table 2). If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, do not use the
system. Remove the system from service immediately and clearly mark “DO NOT USE”. The Lad-Saf Vertical Cable Safety
Sleeve and System must then be destroyed or sent to 3M for replacement.
4.2 SYSTEM CONNECTIONS: The Lad-Saf System must be used with a Full Body Harness. The Full Body Harness to ANSI
2359.11, CSA Z259.10, EN 361, or other applicable national, regional, or local standard. For proper tting of your Full
Body Harness, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions. To connect to your Full Body Harness, connect the Carabiner of

the Lad-Saf System to the frontal D-Ring (A) of your Full Body Harness. Use with any other connector or D-Ring on your
Full Body Harness is prohibited.
;OSHA 1910.29 and OSHA 1926.1053 state that the length of connection between the carrier and attachment point
must not exceed 9 inches (23 cm).
5.0 INSPECTION
5.1 INSPECTION FREQUENCY: The Lad-Saf System must be inspected at the intervals dened in Section 1. Inspection
procedures are described in the “Inspection and Maintenance Log” (Table 2). Inspect all other components of the Fall
Protection System per the frequencies and procedures dened in the manufacturer’s instructions.
5.2 DEFECTS: If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, or if any doubt should arise as to the condition of the
system, remove the Lad-Saf System from service immediately and clearly mark “DO NOT USE”. The Lad-Saf Vertical Cable
Safety Sleeve and System must then be destroyed or sent to 3M for replacement. Do not attempt to repair the system.
5.3 PRODUCT LIFE: The functional life of the Lad-Saf System is determined by work conditions and maintenance. As long as
the product passes inspection criteria, it may remain in service.
6.0 MAINTENANCE, SERVICING, STORAGE
6.1 CLEANING THE SYSTEM: See Section 5.0 for inspection-related maintenance issues. If the carrier cable becomes heavily soiled
with oil, grease, paint, or other substances, clean it with warm soapy water. Wipe o the cable with a clean, dry cloth. Do not
force dry with heat. Do not use acid or caustic chemicals that could damage the cable.
;Additional maintenance and servicing procedures must be completed by an authorized service center. Authorization
must be in writing.
6.2 CLEANING THE CABLE SLEEVE: A soiled Lad-Saf X2 Vertical Cable Safety Sleeve may be cleaned using the following
procedure:
1. Mix four parts warm water with one part mild cleaning solution (e.g. Simple Green or similar solution).
2. Submerge the Cable Sleeve in the solution and soak the entire Cable Sleeve in the mixture for 2-3 hours.
3. Remove the Cable Sleeve from the solution and rinse with warm water for at least 1 minute. Be sure to remove any
excess dirt build-up.
4. Allow the Cable Sleeve to air-dry for 24 hours prior to use. Using cool, forced air is acceptable.
5. See Figure 2 for reference. Apply a small amount of lubrication to pivot points (E) or at the base of the side plate (B).
6. Complete a pre-use inspection as specied in Section 5.3. Conrm no debris is lodged internally, which could aect
Cable Sleeve operation.
6.3 STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION: Store the Lad-Saf X2 Vertical Cable Safety Sleeve in a cool, dry, clean
environment, out of direct sunlight. Avoid areas where chemicals vapors exist. Thoroughly inspect the sleeve after
extended storage.
Transport the Lad-Saf Cable Sleeve in an enclosure to protect it from any cuts, moisture or ultraviolet light. Avoid
corrosive, overheated or refrigerated atmospheres.
6.4 SERVICE: Only 3M or parties authorized in writing by 3M may make repairs to this equipment. If the Lad-Saf Vertical
Cable Safety Sleeve and System have been subject to fall force or inspection reveals an unsafe or defective conditions,
remove the system from service immediately and clearly mark “DO NOT USE”. The Lad-Saf Vertical Cable Safety Sleeve
and System must then be destroyed or sent to 3M for replacement.
7.0 RFID TAG
7.1 LOCATION: 3M product covered in these user instructions is equipped with a Radio Frequency Identication (RFID) Tag.
RFID Tags may be used in coordination with an RFID Tag Scanner for recording product inspection results. See Figure 8
for where your RFID Tag is located.
7.2 DISPOSAL: Prior to disposing of this product, remove the RFID Tag and dispose/recycle in accordance with local
regulations. For additional information on how to remove the RFID Tag, please refer to the website link below.
Do not dispose of your product as unsorted municipal waste. The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol indicates that
all EEE (Electrical and Electronic Equipment) must be disposed of according to local law through available return
and collection systems. Please contact your dealer or your local 3M representative for further information.

Cable Sleeve
(Figure 2) Inspect the Handle (C) for bends, cracks, and deformities. All fasteners must
be securely attached. Operation of handle and cam must be free and smooth.
Springs must be secure and of sucient strength to pull handle down.
The Handle also acts as an energy absorber and fall indicator. The Handle will
be deformed if it has been used for fall arrest. Figure 11.3 shows an example
of a Handle that has not been used for fall arrest (A) and a Handle that has
been used for fall arrest and is deformed (B). If the Handle is deformed
greater than A = 1/2 inch (12.7mm) Do not use. The sleeve must be removed
from service.
Inspect the Locking Lever (E) for smooth operation, ensuring it springs back
into its locked position when released.
Inspect the Locking Cam (H) for wear. Conrm that there is no damage to the
cam.
Inspect the Locking Cam (H) by holding the sleeve vertically with the Handle
(C) in the upright position and shaking the sleeve up and down to simulate a
fall. The cam should rotate freely.
Inspect the Locking Cam (H) by positioning the sleeve horizontally with the
Handle (C) in the upright position and placing the sleeve on the back side on
a at surface with the Lad-Saf X2 label facing up. The cam should rotate fully
upwards to the top of the sleeve.
Inspect the operation of the Side Plate (B) by pulling it back to try to open the
cable slot. It must not rotate. If it does rotate without having to rotate the
Locking Lever (E), remove the sleeve from service.
Inspect the entire unit for signs of corrosion.
Top Bracket
(Figure 11.2) Inspect for proper installation per Lad-Saf™ Flexible Cable Vertical Safety
Systems Installation Instructions, 3M Fall Protection manual 5908282 or
5903435.
Check for visible damage or corrosion. Look for cracks, bends or wear that
could aect the strength and operation of the system. Inspect welds. Look for
cracked or broken welds that could aect strength of bracket. Replace parts if
defects are found.
Check for loose or missing fasteners that secure top bracket to structure
(bolts, clamp plates, U bolts). If fasteners are loose, re-tighten as necessary to
the torque levels listed in the Installation Instructions supplied with your Lad-
Saf Flexible Cable Safety System.
Inspect top plate for deformation. Gap shall be 0.20 inch (5 mm) minimum at
location A.
Ensure both the large pin (B) and the small pin are in place. Ensure the spring
gate (C) is in place.
Inspect the Single Point Anchor (D) for cracks or signs of damage. Inspect the
torque of the fastener. Ensure washer has visible markings.
Bottom Bracket
(Figure 11.1) Inspect for proper installation per Lad-Saf™ Flexible Cable Vertical Safety

Check for damage or corrosion. Look for cracks, bends or wear that could
aect the strength and operation of the system. Replace parts if defects are

Check for loose or missing fasteners that secure bottom bracket to the
structure. If fasteners are loose, re-tighten as necessary to the torque levels
listed in the Installation Instructions supplied with your Lad-Saf Flexible Cable
Ladder Safety System.
Inspect the tension rod assembly. Make certain saddle clips securely retain the
cable. Check torque on saddle clamps; torque to 35 ft-lb (47 N-m). Replace or
retighten if defects are found.

Cable Guides
(Figure 1) Check cable guides for damage. Look for wear or damage to black urethane.
Cable guides should restrain the cable and prevent cable contact with the
ladder/structure. Cable guides should be positioned at approximately 20-40 ft.
(6-12 m) along the carrier cable, or closer if required. Replace parts if defects
are found.
Check cable guide fasteners. The fasteners should the secure cable guide in
position. Tighten as necessary.
Cable Guides
(Figure 1) Inspect the cable for corrosion, kinks or damage that will aect strength and
impede the cable sleeve from traveling on the cable. If there are any nicks or
kinks in the ladder cable, the cable must be inspected by a competent person
prior to use. Inspect for signs of abrasion against the ladder or structure.
Replace the cable if defects are found.
Inspect for proper tension. Groove should be exposed above bottom template
(see callout “E”, Figure 11.1). You should not be able to pull tension rod down
by hand. Cable should be tight enough to prevent contact with the ladder/
structure. Re-tension the cable if necessary. Do not over-tension the system.
Labels
(Figure 9) Ensure that all labels are present and fully legible.
PFAS and Other
Equipment Additional Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) equipment (harness, SRD, etc)
that are used with the Anchorage System should be installed and inspected per
the manufacturer’s instructions.
Structure Verify the structure to which the structure is attached meets the strength
requirements from Table 1 in all possible directions of loading.

Figur 1 viser 3M™ DBI-SALA® Lad-Saf™-stigesikringssystemet. Lad-Saf-stigesikringssystemet er udviklet til at yde faldsikring for
en arbejder, som klatrer på en fastgjort stige eller et lignende klatrestativ. Lad-Saf-systemet består af topbeslaget, et trådkabel,
kabelmuen, kabelskinnen, systemmærkaten og bundbeslaget. Topbeslaget (A) er fastgjort øverst på stigen og forankrer kablet
(B) sammen med bundbeslaget (F), der er fastgjort i bunden af stigen. Kabelmuen (C) bevæger sig op og ned ad kablet

Figur 2 viser komponenterne i Lad-Saf X2-kabelmuen. Kabelmuen består af den øvre valse, den roterende sideplade,
håndtaget, muelegemet, låsehåndtaget, den nedre valse, karabinhagen og låsebøjlen. Den øvre valse (A) fastgør kabelmuen

1.0 PRODUKTANVENDELSE
1.1 FORMÅL: Dette Lad-Saf™-stigesikringssystem er en del af et personligt faldsikringssystem. Når det bruges i kombination
med Lad-Saf™'s aftagelige kabelmue, yder Lad-Saf-stigesikringssystemet faldsikring for en arbejder, som klatrer på en
fastgjort stige eller et lignende klatrestativ.
; Kun faldstandsning: Brug ikke Lad-Saf-stigesikringssystemet til andre formål end faldsikring.
1.2 STANDARDER: Dit stigesikringssystem lever op til de nationale eller regionale standarder, der er angivet på forsiden
af denne brugsanvisning. Hvis dette produkt videresælges uden for det oprindelige modtagerland, skal den person, der
videresælger, sørge for vejledning i brug, vedligeholdelse, regelmæssig inspektion og reparation på sproget i det land,
hvor produktet skal bruges.
1.3 VEJLEDNING: Brugen af Lad-Saf-stigesikringssystemet skal foregå under opsyn af en kompetent person1. Montering af
Lad-Saf-stigesikringssystemet skal foregå under opsyn af en kvaliceret person2.
1.4 UNDERVISNING: Lad-Saf-stigesikringssystemet skal monteres og anvendes af personer, der har gennemgået træning
i korrekt anvendelse af udstyret. Denne brugervejledning bør anvendes som en del af et medarbejdertræningsprogram
som påkrævet af nationale, regionale eller lokale standarder. Installatørerne af dette udstyr har ansvaret for at sikre, at
de er bekendte med denne vejledning, er trænet i korrekt vedligeholdelse og anvendelse af udstyret samt er bekendte
med anvendelseskarakteristika, anvendelsesbegrænsninger og konsekvenserne af forkert anvendelse af udstyret.
1.5 REDNINGSPLAN: Når dette udstyr og tilsluttede delsystemer anvendes, skal arbejdsgiveren have en redningsplan på
plads samt midlerne til at implementere den, og vedkommende skal informere brugere, autoriserede personer og reddere
om planen3, og reddere4. Det anbefales at have et redningshold på stedet. Reddere skal forsynes med udstyr og teknikker
til gennemførelse af en vellykket redning. Undervisning skal gennemføres med jævne mellemrum for at sikre, at redderne
har de fornødne færdigheder.
1.6 INSPEKTIONSHYPPIGHED:
Lad-Saf-stigesikringssystemet skal inspiceres af brugeren før hver anvendelse og desuden
af en anden kompetent person end brugeren mindst én gang om året.

Inspektionsprocedurer er beskrevet i "Inspektions-
og vedligeholdelsesloggen". Resultaterne af hver inspektion, der foretages af en kompetent person, skal dokumenteres på
eksemplarer af "Inspektions- og vedligeholdelsesloggen".
1.7 EFTER ET FALD: Hvis Lad-Saf-stigesikringssystemet har været udsat for kraftpåvirkningerne ved en faldstandsning,
skal den straks tages ud af brug og mærkes "MÅ IKKE BRUGES". Lad-Saf-kabelsikkerhedsmuen og -systemet skal
derefter destrueres eller sendes til 3M med henblik på udskiftning.
2.0 SYSTEMKRAV
2.1 FORANKRING: Kravene til forankring varierer alt efter faldsikringsanvendelsen. Strukturen, på hvilken
stigesikringssystemet placeres eller monteres, skal opfylde forankringsspecikationerne, der er deneret i tabel 1.
2.2 FARER: Brug af dette udstyr i områder med miljøfarer kan kræve yderligere sikkerhedsforanstaltninger for at undgå
personskade eller beskadigelse af udstyret. Faremomenter kan omfatte, men er ikke begrænset til: varme, kemikalier,
korrosive miljøer, højspændingsledninger, eksplosive eller giftige gasser, kørende maskineri, skarpe kanter eller
overliggende materialer, som kan falde ned og ramme brugeren eller det personlige faldstandsningssystem.
2.3 CLIMB ASSIST-KOMPATIBILITET: Brug ikke en PCA (Powered Climb Assist) sammen med et CLFAS (Climbing Ladder Fall Arrest
System) fra 3M, herunder det lodrette Lad-Saf-livlinesystem og Lad-Saf X2, X3 eller X3+ med aftagelige kabelmuer, medmindre det
er blevet bekræftet af 3M, at PCA'en er kompatibel med 3M's CLFAS. Hvis denne advarsel ikke efterkommes, kan det medføre, at en
brugers fald ikke forhindres eektivt i tilfælde af et højt fald, hvor der anvendes uforenelige PCA- og CLFAS-systemer. Kontakt 3M’s

; Brug af Climb Assist-systemer, der ikke er kompatible med vertikale 3M-systemer, kan forårsage alvorlig personskade
eller dødsfald.
2.4 KOMPONENTKOMPATIBILITET: 3M-udstyr er kun beregnet til brug med 3M-godkendte komponenter og delsystemer.
Erstatninger eller udskiftninger med ikke-godkendte komponenter eller delsystemer kan bringe udstyrets kompatibilitet
i fare og kan påvirke det komplette systems sikkerhed og pålidelighed.
2.5 KONNEKTORKOMPATIBILITET: Konnektorer betragtes som kompatible med forbindelsesanordninger, når de er
konstrueret til at fungere sammen på en sådan måde, at størrelserne og formerne ikke får deres ledmekanismer til
utilsigtet at åbne sig, uanset hvordan de bliver vendt. Kontakt 3M, hvis du har spørgsmål vedrørende kompatibilitet.
Konnektorer (kroge, karabinhager og D-ringe) skal kunne klare en belastning på mindst 22,2 kN (5.000 lbf). Konnektorer
skal være kompatible med forankringen og andre systemkomponenter. Anvend ikke udstyr, der ikke er kompatibelt.
Ikke-kompatible konnektorer kan løsrive sig eller blive frakoblet ved et uheld (se gur 4). Konnektorer skal være
kompatible med hensyn til størrelse, form og styrke. Hvis tilslutningselementet, som en snapkrog eller karabinhage er
fastgjort til, er for lille eller har en uregelmæssig form, kan der opstå en situation, hvor tilslutningselementet belaster
snapkrogens eller karabinhagens led (A). Denne belastning kan medføre, at leddet åbnes (B), så snapkrogen eller
karabinhagen frigøres fra tilslutningspunktet (C).
Selvlåsende snapkroge og karabinhager påkræves af ANSI Z359 og OSHA.
1 Kompetent person: En person, som er i stand til at identicere eksisterende og forudsigelige risici i omgivelserne eller arbejdsbetingelser, som er usunde,
skadelige eller farlige for medarbejderne, og som har bemyndigelse til at træe øjeblikkelige korrigerende forholdsregler for at eliminere dem.
2  Kvaliceret person: En person med en anerkendt uddannelse, certikat eller professionelt omdømme eller som gennem omfattende viden, træning og
erfaring har påvist sin evne til at løse problemer i forbindelse med faldsikring og redningssystemer i det omfang, som kræves af OSHA eller andre gældende føderale,
statslige og lokale bestemmelser.
3 Autoriseret person: En person, der er udpeget af arbejdsgiveren til at udføre opgaver på et sted, hvor personen vil være udsat for en faldrisiko
4 Redder: Den person eller de personer ud over den person, der bliver reddet, som udfører en assisteret undsætning ved brug af et redningssystem.
5 Inspektionshyppighed: Ekstreme arbejdsforhold (barskt miljø, langvarig brug osv.) kan gøre det nødvendigt at øge den kompetente persons
inspektionshyppighed.

2.6 OPRETTELSE AF SAMMENKOBLINGER: Snapkroge og karabinhager anvendt med dette udstyr skal være selvlåsende.
Sørg for, at alle forbindelser er kompatible i størrelse, form og styrke. Anvend ikke udstyr, der ikke er kompatibelt.
Sørg for, at alle konnektorer er helt lukkede og låste.
3M-konnektorer (snapkroge og karabinhager) er udelukkende konstrueret til brug som speciceret i hvert produkts
brugsanvisning. Se gur 5 for eksempler på forkerte forbindelser. Tilslut ikke snapkroge og karabinhager:
A. Til en D-ring, som en anden konnektor er fastgjort til.
B. På en måde, som vil medføre belastning på leddet. Store snapkroge med halsåbning bør ikke forbindes til en D-ring
i standardstørrelse eller til lignende genstande, der vil medføre en belastning på leddet, hvis krogen eller D-ringen
vrides eller drejes, medmindre snapkrogen er udrustet med en 16 kN (3.600 pund) port. Kontrollér mærkatet på din
snapkrog for at bekræfte, at den er egnet til din anvendelse.
C. På en forkert måde, hvor dele, som stikker ud fra snapkrogen eller karabinhagen, griber fat i forankringen, og uden
visuel bekræftelse synes at være korrekt fastgjort til forankringspunktet.
D. Til hinanden.
E. Direkte til selen, taljerebet eller forankringslinen (medmindre producentens vejledning for både taljereb og konnektor
specikt tillader en sådan tilslutning).
F. Til en genstand med en form eller størrelse, som gør, at snapkrogen eller karabinhagen ikke vil lukke og låse, eller
som kan få linen til at rulle sig ud.
G. På en måde, som forhindrer konnektoren i at ugte korrekt under belastning.
