MISE EN SERVICE
AJUSTEMENT DE LA DATE  MISE À L’HEURE
1. Tirer la couronne en position 2, la tourner dans le sens anti-
horaire pour ajuster le calendrier sur le jour précédant la date
de la mise en service.
2. Tirer la couronne en position 3 et faire tourner les heures en
avant de manière à faire apparaître la date exacte qui saute
à minuit. Ajuster ensuite l’heure et la minute.
3. Repousser la couronne en position 1.
VOTRE CHRONOMÈTRE BREITLING
Un chronomètre est un instrument horaire de haute précision qui a passé avec succès
toutes les épreuves imposées par le COSC (Contrôle Offi ciel Suisse des Chronomètres),
organisme neutre et indépendont qui teste individuellement chaque mouvement selon
la prescription en vigueur.
L’épreuve de certifi cation pour les chronomètres-bracelets à oscillateur à quartz consiste
à observer chaque mouvement durant 13 jours et 13 nuits, dans plusieurs positions et
à 3 températures diff érentes (8°C, 23°C, 38°C). Pour obtenir le titre de chronomètre, les
performances d’un mouvement doivent répondre à 6 critères très stricts, dont un écart de
marche quotidien limité à ±0.07 secondes, soit une précision annuelle de ±25 secondes.
L’écart de marche du calibre SuperQuartz™ équipant votre Breitling surpasse largement
ces exigences, atteignant ±15 secondes par an.
Le terme de « chronomètre » ne doit pas être confondu avec celui de « chronographe », qui
est une montre compliquée dotée d’un mécanisme additionnel permettant de mesurer la
durée d’un événement. Un chronographe n’est pas forcément certifié chronomètre, mais
tous les chronographes Breitling portent le titre très convoité de chronomètre.

II.
MESURE D’UN TEMPS COURT AVEC INTERRUPTION
1. Appuyer sur le poussoir A pour enclencher le chronographe.
L’aiguille 3 permet de suivre la mesure en secondes.
2. Pour interrompre la mesure, appuyer à nouveau sur le poussoir A.
Pour reprendre la mesure du temps, appuyer sur le poussoir A.
Il est ainsi possible de cumuler plusieurs temps courts.
3. La remise à zéro s’eff ectue en appuyant sur le poussoir B, une fois
la mesure fi nale arrêtée.
UTILISATION DU CHRONOGRAPHE
I.
MESURE D’UN TEMPS COURT UNIQUE
1. Appuyer sur le poussoir A pour enclencher le chronographe. L’ai-
guille 3 permet de suivre la mesure en secondes.
2. Arrêter la mesure en appuyant à nouveau sur le poussoir A. La

INITIALISATION DES COMPTEURS
Les aiguilles du chronographe peuvent nécessiter une initialisation si elles ne sont pas en
position 12 heures au repos. Si nécessaire, procédez comme suit. Tirez la couronne en position 2 :
Pressez le poussoir A pour sélectionner l’aiguille à initialiser - l’aiguille sélectionnée fait un
tour complet.
Pressez le poussoir B pour déplacer l’aiguille jusqu’à la position correcte - exactement à 12
heures.
Pressez le poussoir A pour sélectionner l’aiguille suivante.
Procédez de la même manière pour les 3 aiguilles.
Repoussez la couronne pour sortir du mode d’initialisation.

ÉCHELLE PULSOMÉTRIQUE
Enclencher le chronographe, compter 30 battements de cœur et arrêter.
Lire le nombre de battements par minute sur l’échelle pulsométrique.

LUNETTE ROSE DES VENTS
Cette lunette, en indiquant les points cardinaux et les caps, remplit plusieurs fonctions
de navigation.
1. MÉMOIRE DE CAP
Cette fonction offre la possibilité au pilote de «mémoriser» le cap à suivre en plaçant
celui-ci en face de l’index situé à 12h.
2. INDICATION DES CAPS INVERSES
Elle permet en outre à son utilisateur de lire instantanément la direction de retour, lue à
l’opposé du cap suivi lors du vol aller.
INDICATEUR DE FIN DE VIE DE PILE EOL
Le mouvement de la montre est équipé d’un détecteur de fin de vie de la pile (EOL), signalé
par la petite aiguille des secondes effectuant des sauts de 4 secondes.
Le remplacement de la pile doit être effectué dans les jours qui suivent auprès d’un
concessionnaire agréé BREITLING. Exigez également qu’un test d’étanchéité de la montre
soit effectué.
RECOMMANDATIONS
Les piles et les composants horlogers usagés ne doivent pas
être jetés dans la poubelle mais doivent, au contraire, être
recyclés correctement. Il est recommandé de les ramener à
votre point de vente. Vous contribuerez ainsi à la protection de
l’environnement et de la santé.

BOUSSOLE SOLAIRE
Votre chronomètre Breitling peut être utilisé comme boussole solaire, permettant ainsi de
déterminer la direction nord-sud. Pour les régions qui ont instauré l’heure d’été, il convient
de retrancher une heure lors de l’orientation de la montre.
Utilisation dans l’hémisphère nord
Orienter avec précision l’aiguille des heures en direction du soleil.
Par rapport au cadran de la montre, le point situé à mi-distance
entre l’heure actuelle et 12h indique le sud, le nord se trouvant
à l’opposé.

MAINTENANCE
Votre chronomètre Breitling est un instrument sophistiqué fonctionnant en permanence
et sous les contraintes les plus diverses. Dans un volume très restreint, une multitude de
composants contribuent à en assurer toutes les fonctions. Leur action mécanique engendre
une usure inéluctable, que l’entretien, par un renouvellement de la lubrifi cation ainsi que
par le remplacement des composants usagés, permet de maîtriser. Comme tout instrument
de mesure de précision, votre montre doit faire l’objet d’une maintenance régulière pour
fonctionner au mieux de son potentiel : la périodicité de cette opération varie en fonction de
l’utilisation. Breitling ou votre concessionnaire agréé prendront volontiers celle-ci en charge.
L’ÉTANCHÉITÉ
Le mouvement de votre chronomètre est protégé par un boîtier complexe muni de joints qui
assurent son étanchéité. Sous l’infl uence de divers agents extérieurs – transpiration, eau
chlorée ou salée, cosmétiques, parfums ou poussière, ces joints se dégradent. Pour cette
raison, l’étanchéité ne peut pas être garantie de manière permanente. En cas d’utilisation
intensive en milieu aquatique, il est recommandé de procéder chaque année à un contrôle
de l’étanchéité. Dans tous les cas, cette vérifi cation s’eff ectuera tous les deux ans. Cette
opération, qui ne prend que quelques minutes, peut être eff ectuée par un centre offi ciel
de service après-vente Breitling ou par un concessionnaire agréé (www.breitling.com).

Les modèles Breitling sont étanches à diff érents degrés. Le niveau d’étanchéité, exprimé en
mètres, est une norme qui n’indique pas une profondeur absolue d’immersion. La couronne
et les poussoirs ne doivent en aucun cas être actionnés sous l’eau ou lorsque la montre
est mouillée. Le tableau ci-dessous indique les conditions dans lesquelles votre montre
peut raisonnablement être utilisée en fonction de son degré d’étanchéité:

Si votre montre est équipée d’une couronne vissée, assurez-vous que cette dernière est
verrouillée avant toute utilisation en milieu aquatique. De même pour les poussoirs vissés.
CONSEILS UTILES
Les bracelets Breitling en cuir véritable sont manufacturés avec les matériaux les plus
raffi nés et constituent un produit de haute qualité. Comme tous les objets en peau naturelle
(souliers, gants, etc.), leur durée de vie varie sensiblement en fonction des conditions du
porter. En particulier, l’eau, les cosmétiques et la transpiration accélèrent le processus de
vieillissement. Un bracelet Breitling métallique ou synthétique est donc mieux adapté aux
activités impliquant un contact fréquent avec l’eau ou l’humidité.
Les boîtiers et bracelets métalliques Breitling sont conçus à partir des meilleurs alliages
et garantissent robustesse et confort au porter. Un nettoyage régulier par rinçage et
brossage à l’eau claire permet de conserver la brillance de votre montre. Cette opération
est vivement recommandée après chaque immersion dans l’eau salée ou chlorée. Pour
les montres munies d’un bracelet en cuir, procéder de la même façon, mais en évitant
de mouiller celui-ci.
À ÉVITER
Comme tout objet de valeur, les chronomètres Breitling méritent un soin particulier. Ainsi,
il convient de les protéger des chocs et coups à des objets durs, de ne pas les exposer à
des produits chimiques, solvants ou gaz dangereux ni aux champs magnétiques. En outre,
votre chronomètre Breitling est conçu pour fonctionner idéalement dans une plage de
température comprise entre 0°C et 50°C.

PREPARATION FOR USE

1. Pull the crown out to position 2, and turn it counterclockwise
to adjust the calendar to the day prior to the activation date.
2. Pull the crown out to position 3. Turn the hands forward until
the correct date jumps into place, at midnight. Then adjust the
hour and minute.
3. Push the crown back into position 1.
YOUR BREITLING CHRONOMETER
A chronometer is a high-precision instrument that has successfully passed the entire
battery of tests imposed by the COSC (Swiss Offi cial Chronometer Testing Institute), a
neutral and independent body which individually tests each movement according to the
prescriptions in force.
The certifi cation test for wristwatch chronographs with quartz oscillators consists in
observing each movement for 13 days and 13 nights, in several positions and at 3 diff erent
temperatures (8°C, 23°C, 38°C). To earn the prestigious chronometer label, a movement’s
performances must meet 6 very strict criteria, including a daily variation in rate of within
±0.07 seconds, corresponding to an annual precision of ±25 seconds. The variation in rate
of the SuperQuartz™ calibre fitted in your Breitling watch far and above exceeds these
demands, achieving a level of ±15 seconds per year.
The term “chronometer” should not be confused with that of “chronograph”, which is a
complicated watch fitted with an additional mechanism used for measuring the duration
of an event. A chronograph is not necessarily chronometer-certified, but all Breitling chro-
nographs carry the much-coveted title of “chronometer”.

USING THE CHRONOGRAPH
I.
MEASURING A SINGLE SHORT TIME
1. Press pushpiece A to start the chronograph. Hand3 keeps track of
the measured time in seconds.
2. Stop the measurement by pressing pushpiece A once more. The
measurement is made in hours (totalizer1), minutes (hand 2),
seconds (hand 3) and

MEASURING AN INTERRUPTED SHORT TIME
1. Press pushpiece A to start the chronograph. Hand3 shows the
measurement in seconds.
2. To interrupt the measurement, press pushpieceA once more.
To restart the time measurement, press pushpieceA. This
procedure makes it possible to add up several short times.
3. The chronograph is reset to zero by pressing pushpieceB,
once the fi nal measurement has been stopped.

RESETTING THE COUNTERS
The chronograph hands may need to be reset if they are not in the 12 o’clock position at rest. If
necessary, proceed as follows. Pull the crown out to position 2:
Press push-button A to select the hand to reset - the selected hand will complete a full revolution.
Press push-button B to move the hand to the correct position - 12 o'clock precisely.
Press push-button A to select the next hand.
Follow the same procedure for the 3 hands.
Push the crown back in to exit reset mode.

PULSOMETER SCALE
Start the chronograph, count 30 heartbeats and then stop.
Read the number of beats per minute on the pulsometer scale.

COMPASS ROSE BEZEL
This bezel, indicating the cardinal points and headings, performs several navigation func-
tions.
1. HEADING MEMORY
This function enables the pilot to "memorise" the heading to follow, by positioning it opposite
the index at 12 o'clock.
2. REVERSE HEADINGS INDICATOR
It also provides the user with an instantaneous return direction reading, opposite to the
heading followed in the outward flight.
BATTERY ENDOFLIFE INDICATOR EOL
The watch movement is fitted with a battery end-of-life detector (EOL), signalled by the
small seconds hand beginning to jump every 4 seconds.
The battery must be replaced within the next few days by an authorized BREITLING agent.
Also ask for a water-resistance test to be performed on the watch.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Used batteries and used watch components should not be dis-
posed of like regular garbage, but be correctly recycled. We rec-
ommend returning them to your point of sale. You will thereby
contribute to environmental and public health protection.

SUN COMPASS
Your Breitling chronometer may be used as a sun compass, thus enabling you to determine
North and South. For regions that have instated daylight saving time, subtract one hour
when aligning the watch.
In the Northern Hemisphere
Point the hour hand precisely towards the sun. In relation to the
watch dial, the point located midway between the current time and
12 o'clock indicates South, North being exactly opposite.
In the Southern Hemisphere
Point the hour-marker located at 12 o'clock on the dial precisely
towards the sun. In relation to the watch dial, the point located
midway between the current time and 12 o'clock indicates North,
South being exactly opposite.

MAINTENANCE
Your Breitling chronometer is a sophisticated instrument which is constantly subjected
to a wide variety of stresses and strains. Within a very small volume, a large number of
components contribute to handling all the functions. Their mechanical action inevitably
leads to a certain amount of wear and tear, which may be controlled by maintenance con-
sisting of relubrication and replacing worn components. Like any precision measurement
instrument, your watch must be regularly maintained in order to function at its highest
level of potential: the frequency of this operation varies according to actual use. Breitling
or your authorized retailer will be happy to handle the procedure.
WATER RESISTANCE
The movement of your chronometer is protected by a complex case fi tted with gaskets to
ensure its water resistance. Under the infl uence of various external agents - perspiration,
chlorinated or salt water, cosmetics, fragrances or dust - these gaskets gradually deterio-
rate. That is why water resistance cannot be permanently guaranteed. If used intensively
in water, we recommend having an annual water resistance check conducted. In any
event, such an appraisal must be done every two years. This operation, which takes only
a few minutes, may be conducted by a Breitling authorized maintenance centre, or by an
authorized retailer (www.breitling.com).

Breitling models are water-resistant to varying degrees. The extent of the water resistance,
expressed in metres (M), is a standard value and does not indicate an absolute immersion
depth. The crown and pushpieces must not under any circumstances be operated under
water or when the watch is wet. The table below indicates the conditions in which your
watch may reasonably be used, according to its degree of water resistance:

If your watch is equipped with a screw-lock crown, ensure that this is locked before any
use in water. This also applies to screw-lock pushpieces.
USEFUL TIPS
Breitling genuine leather straps are crafted with the most refi ned materials and represent
extremely high-quality products. Like all objects in natural skin (shoes, gloves, etc.), their
length of life varies considerably, according to the conditions in which they are worn. ln
particular, water, cosmetics and perspiration accelerate the ageing process. A metal or
synthetic Breitling bracelet is thus better suited to activities involving frequent contact
with water or moisture.
Breitling metal cases and bracelets are made from the fi nest alloys and guarantee stur-
diness and wearer comfort. Regular cleaning by rinsing and brushing in clean water will
keep your watch shiny. This operation is strongly recommended after each immersion in
salty or chlorinated water. For watches fi tted with a leather strap, the same advice applies,
as well as avoiding getting the strap wet.
WHAT TO AVOID
Like any valuable objects, Breitling chronometers deserve special care. It is important to
protect them from jarring and knocks by hard objects, and not to expose them to chemical
products, solvents, dangerous gases, or magnetic fi elds. Moreover, your Breitling chronom-
eter is designed to run smoothly at temperatures ranging between 0°C and 50°C.

IHR BREITLINGCHRONOMETER
Ein Chronometer ist ein hochpräzises Zeitmessinstrument, das sämtliche vom COSC (Offi zi-

INBETRIEBNAHME
DATUMSEINSTELLUNG  ZEITEINSTELLUNG
1. Die Krone in Position 2 ziehen und sie im Gegenuhrzeiger-
sinn drehen, bis das Datum des Tages vor der Inbetriebnahme
erscheint.
2. Die Krone in Position 3 ziehen. Die Zeiger vorwärtsbewegen
bis zum Datumswechsel um Mitternacht. Danach die Zeiger
auf die gewünschte Zeit stellen.
3. Die Krone wieder in Position 1 zurückschieben.

EINFACHE KURZZEITMESSUNG

INITIALISIERUNG DER ZÄHLER
Die Chronografenzeiger müssen initialisiert werden, wenn sie in der Ruhestellung nicht genau
auf 12 Uhr liegen. Gehen Sie hierzu bei Bedarf wie folgt vor: Krone in die Position 2 herausziehen.
Drücker A betätigen, um den zu initialisierenden Zeiger auszuwählen - Der ausgewählte Zeiger
vollzieht eine Umdrehung.
Drücker B betätigen, um den Zeiger korrekt auszurichten - genau auf 12 Uhr.
Drücker A betätigen, um den nächsten Zeiger auszuwählen.
Für alle 3 Zeiger gleich verfahren.
Krone wieder zurückschieben, um den Initialisierungsmodus
zu beenden.

PULSOMETERSKALA
Den Chronografen starten, 30 Herzschläge zählen und stoppen.
Auf der Pulsometerskala die Anzahl der Pulsschläge pro Minute ablesen.

BATTERIERESERVEANZEIGE EOL
Das Uhrwerk ist mit einem Batterie-Reservedetektor (EOL) ausgerüstet, der über den im
4-Sekundentakt hüpfenden kleinen Sekundenzeiger anzeigt, dass die Batterie erschöpft ist.
Der Austausch der Batterie muss in den nächsten Tagen bei einem offiziellen BREITLING-
Händler erfolgen. Verlangen Sie bei dieser Gelegenheit eine Dichtheitskontrolle der Uhr.
EMPFEHLUNGEN
Gebrauchte Batterien sowie andere zu ersetzende Uhrenbe-
standteile gehören nicht in den Abfall, sondern müssen vor-
schriftsgemäß entsorgt werden, am besten über Ihren Uhren-
händler. So leisten Sie einen Beitrag zum Schutz der Umwelt
und der Gesundheit.
WINDROSENLÜNETTE
Diese Lünette übernimmt durch die Anzeige der Himmelsrichtungen und Kurse verschiedene
Navigationsfunktionen.
1. KURSSPEICHER
Mit dieser Funktion kann der Pilot den zu verfolgenden Kurs „speichern“, indem er ihn auf
den Index bei 12 Uhr ausrichtet.
2. GEGENKURSANZEIGE
Ermöglicht dem Benutzer, sofort die Rückflugrichtung gegenüberliegend des beim Hinflug
verfolgten Kurses abzulesen.
