4 GBIE
Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by
children unless they are older than 8 years of age and are
supervised.
Children younger than 8 years of age are to be kept away
from the appliance and the power cable.
All repairs must be carried out by authorised specialist compa-
nies or by the Customer Service department. Improper repairs
may put the user at risk. They will also invalidate any warranty
claim.
Defective components must always be replaced with genuine
replacement parts. Compliance with safety requirements can
only be guaranteed if original replacement parts are used.
Protect the mains cable from contact with hot appliance parts.
Never use the appliance near naked flames, a hotplate or a
heated oven.
Set up the appliance as close as possible to an electrical power
socket. Make sure that the power plug is quickly reachable in
case of danger and that there is no danger of tripping over
the cable.
Provide a stable location for the appliance.
GTGE 2000 A1 GBIE 5
DANGER! ELECTRIC SHOCK!
The appliance should only be connected to a correctly
installed and earthed mains power socket. Ensure that the
rating for your local power supply corresponds with the
details on the rating plate of the appliance.
Arrange for Customer Services to repair or replace con-
necting cables and/or appliances that are not functioning
properly or have been damaged.
Do not expose the appliance to rain, and never use it in a
humid or wet environment.
Make sure that the power cable does not get wet or damp
during use.
Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids!
There is a risk of a potentially fatal electric shock if
residual moisture comes into contact with live compo-
nents during operation.
Always take hold of the plug when handling the power
cable. Do not pull on the cable itself and never touch the
power cable with wet hands, as this could result in either a
short circuit or an electric shock.
Do not place the appliance itself, furniture items or similar
objects on the power cable and make sure it cannot become
jammed or trapped in any way.
Do not open the appliance housing or attempt to repair or
modify the appliance. Opening the housing and/or making

Setting up
1) When using the appliance for the first time, clean all accessories as de-
scribed in the section Cleaning.
2) Set up the housing 4 in accordance with the safety instructions.
3) Place the drip tray 3 into the housing 4 so that the recess in the edge faces
towards the front (see fold-out page).
4) Fill the drip tray 3 with approx. 1 litre of cold water up to the MAX mark.
5) Place the heating element 2 into the housing 4 so that the heat level con-
trol 6 faces forwards. Make sure that the pin on the housing 4 is inserted
into the corresponding opening on the heating element 2.
NOTE
The heating element 2 is fitted with a safety switch. The appliance can
only be started if this is inserted correctly.
6) Place the cooking grill 1 on the housing 4 so that the four feet are in the
respective cooking grid fixtures 5. You can choose between two settings:
If your food is to be cooked quickly at a high temperature, place the cooking
grill 1 in the deeper left half of the fixtures 5. This setting is particularly
suitable for thin foods, such as shrimps or thin steak, and for searing
meat.
Place the cooking grill 1 in the right, higher halves if your food is to
be cooked slowly or kept warm. This setting is recommended for grilling
sensitive foods such as vegetables or fish or for thicker foods.
NOTE
In general, thin foods should be cooked hot and quickly. The thicker the
food, the more gently and slowly it should be grilled so that it does not
burn on the outside and is evenly cooked through.
GTGE 2000 A1 GBIE 9
7) Plug the mains plug into an easily accessible mains socket.
8) For first use only: Turn the heat level control 6 to MAX and let the appli-
ance heat up for approx. 15 minutes without food. The operating light 7
lights up to show that the appliance is heating up.
NOTE
The operating light 7 switches off as soon as the selected temperature
level has been reached.
The operating light 7 may switch on and off several times during this
process. This is not a malfunction of the appliance! It merely indicates
that the appliance is maintaining the temperature.
The thermostat only operates from the beginning of the temperature
setting scale. Depending on the room temperature, heating up will start
at different positions on the scale.
When the appliance is heated up for the first time, the protective layer
on the heating element 2 burns off. You may notice a small amount
of smoke and a slight smell. This is normal and dissipates after a short
time. Ensure that there is adequate ventilation. For example, open a
window.
The appliance is now ready for use.
Grilling
WARNING!
To prevent the appliance from overheating, do not place any materials such
as aluminium foil, aluminium trays, plates or the like on the cooking grill 1.
There is a risk of fire!
Never operate the appliance without sufficient water in the drip tray 3;
otherwise, it may
overheat. There is a risk of fire! See section “Topping up the water”.
The surfaces of the appliance become very hot during use. During opera-
tion, touch the appliance only on the heat level control 6 or on the side
handles. There is a risk of burns!
1) Proceed as described in the section “Setting up” (steps 2–7).
2) Turn the heat level control 6 to MAX and let the appliance heat up for
approx. 5 minutes without food.
GTGE 2000 A1
10 GBIE
3) After preheating, set the heat level control 6 for the desired use:
Choose a high or the highest setting for cooking thin grill food or for
searing meat. Grill it for a few minutes at maximum temperature on
both sides and then adjust the heat to a lower setting to ensure gentle
cooking.
Choose a medium or low setting for gentle further cooking of the food or
for slow cooking delicate foods such as vegetables or fish.
To keep ready-cooked food warm, select a low temperature setting right
at the beginning of the scale.
NOTE
The operating light 7 goes out as soon as the selected temperature
has been reached.
The operating light 7 may come on and go out several times during
this process. This is not a malfunction of the appliance! It merely indi-
cates that the appliance is maintaining the set temperature.
The thermostat only operates from the beginning of the temperature
setting scale. Depending on the room temperature, heating up will start
at different positions on the scale.
4) Tip: Oil the cooking grill 1 with a little vegetable oil so that the food does
not stick to the cooking grill 1.
5) Place the food directly on the cooking grill 1 and turn it over occasionally.
Topping up the water
As soon as the water level falls below the MIN mark after extended use, top
up the water. It is not necessary to remove the cooking grill 1 or the heating
element 2 to do this. Proceed as follows:
1) Remove the plug from the mains power socket.
CAUTION! PROPERTY DAMAGE!
Do not pour water over the hot heating elements, as this could damage
them.
2) Carefully pour the water into the drip tray 3 close to the edge of the cook-
ing grill 1 until it reaches the MAX marking.
After grilling
1) Turn the heat level control 6 to 0 and remove the plug from the power
socket.
2) Allow the appliance to cool down, remove the cooking grill 1 and the heat-
ing element 2 and carefully pour out the water from the drip tray 3.
3) Clean all accessories as described in the section Cleaning.

sive cleaning agents for cleaning.
