CAUTIONS

Here are some general tips to follow for safe use of this product:

• Always turn the volume down before plugging the earphones into a

sound source.

• Turn up the volume control only far enough to hear properly.

• Ringing in the ears may indicate that the volume level is too high. Try

lowering the volume.

• If you are connecting these earphones to an airplane's sound system,

please use the level attenuator provided with the E5c earphones, and

make sure that the level attenuator volume is all the way down. This pre-

vents loud messages by the pilot from causing hearing discomfort.

• Shure recommends that you have your ears checked by an audiologist

on a regular basis. If you experience wax buildup in your ears, stop us-

ing the earphones until an audiologist has examined your ears.

• Wipe the earphones with an antiseptic before and after use to avoid in-

fections. Stop using the earphones if they are causing great discomfort

or infection.

EARPHONE COMPONENTS

1) Earphones. The earphone with the BLUE marking fits in the left ear,

while the earphone with the RED marking fits in the right ear. When

properly inserted, the Shure logo will appear right-side up on the outside

of the earphone with the cable exit pointing forward and upward.

2) Sleeves. The earphones come with a pair of foam sleeves (installed),

and a trial assortment of flex sleeves -small, medium, and large.

3) Adjustment Tube. For a secure fit, slide the adjustment tube back and

forth to adjust the slack of the cables leading to the earphones.

4) In-line Crossover. Optimally blends the frequencies of the two drivers.

5) Input Connector. 3.5 mm (

-inch) plug connects to the 3.5 mm ste-

reo earphone output of a listening device.

INSERTING THE EARPHONES

1. Insert the earphones using the following guidelines:

• Note the difference between the right and left earphones:

earphone with blue dot = left ear

earphone with red dot = right ear

• When inserting the earphones, pull the ear upward and outward to

straighten out the ear canal.

2. Wrap the form-fitted wire over the top and down the back of the ear.

3. Use the adjustment tube to secure the cables comfortably.

• Flex sleeves -Try the different sizes to

determine the best fit for comfort and

isolation.

• Foam sleeves -Compress the foam sleeve

at the end of the earphone by rolling it be-

tween your thumb and forefinger before in-

serting it. Hold the earphone in place for

about 10 seconds while the foam expands

and creates a tight seal.

• The quality of the frequency

response and sound isolation

depend on how well the sleeves seal.

If the earphone seems to be lacking in low

frequency response, insert the earphone deeper into the ear canal to obtain

a better seal, or try one of the other sleeve options.

LEVEL ATTENUATOR

The PA235 provides you with volume control when you are connecting ear-

phones to airplane seat outputs. It is intended only for airline use. It is not in-

tended for use with other audio sources.

To use the PA235:

1. Connect the 1/8-inch jack on the earphones to the female jack on the

PA235.

2. Turn the PA235 volume down completely (toward –).

3. Connect the PA235 to the 1/8-inch audio output of the airplane seat.

4. Insert the earphones into your ears (see Inserting the Earphones)

5. Turn the volume on the PA235 up slightly (toward +).

6. Adjust the seat volume as follows:

• If the audio is distorted, turn down the volume at the seat.

• If there is no distortion, but there is background noise, turn up the

seat volume.

7. Adjust the PA235 volume to a comfortable level.

NOTE: the program may be interrupted by messages from the pilot that

are much louder. To avoid discomfort, keep the overall volume just loud

enough for listening enjoyment.

SLEEVE VARIETIES

CHANGING SLEEVES

The sleeves at the end of the earphones can be replaced by sliding them off

and on. A combination of twisting and pulling is recommended for sleeve

removal.

Flex Sleeves. These reusable sleeves, made of a clear pliable

plastic (PA756) or a soft, gray silicone rubber (PA758), fit com-

fortably in the ear and allow for ease of insertion. Choose from

3 sizes—small, medium or large—for the best fit. These should be

cleaned regularly, using alcohol wipes or an antiseptic.

Foam Sleeves. These disposable foam sleeves compress to

fit in the ear canal. Once in the ear, the foam expands to form

a tight seal that holds the earphones firmly in place.

Triple-Flange Sleeves. These reusable sleeves form a

tighter seal than flex sleeves while holding the earphones

firmly in place. These should be cleaned regularly, using al-

cohol wipes or an antiseptic.

NOTE: On each foam sleeve there is a rough side and a

smooth side. For greater comfort, Shure recommends that you

place the smooth side facing out, away from the earphone.

CARE OF THE EARPHONES

Follow these tips to prevent service costs and ear infections:

• Avoid getting moisture in the nozzle, as this can adversely affect sound

quality. Sweat entering the nozzle may cause the earphone to tempo-

rarily stop working. However, normal operation often returns after the

earphone dries out.

• Avoid striking or dropping the earphones. Extreme shock can damage

them.

• Use the supplied wax removal tool to clean the nozzles after each use

(see figure 1).

MISES EN GARDE

Voici des conseils généraux à suivre pour pouvoir utiliser ce produit en toute

sécurité :

• Toujours baisser le volume avant de brancher les écouteurs sur une

source sonore.

• Régler le volume juste assez fort pour entendre correctement.

• Un bourdonnement des oreilles peut indiquer que le volume est trop

élevé. Essayer de réduire le volume.

• Si ces écouteurs sont branchés sur le système de sonorisation d'un avi-

on, se servir de l'atténuateur de niveau fourni avec les écouteurs E5c

pour régler le volume d'atténuateur au niveau le plus bas pour ne pas

être gêné par des annonces à haut volume provenant du pilote.

• Shure recommande de se faire examiner régulièrement par un audiolo-

giste. En cas d'accumulation de cérumen dans les oreilles, ne plus uti-

liser les écouteurs avant d'avoir consulté un audiologiste.

• Essuyer les écouteurs avec un antiseptique avant et après chaque uti-

lisation pour éviter les infections. Cesser d'utiliser les écouteurs s'ils

causent une gêne ou une infection.

COMPOSANTS DES ÉCOUTEURS

1) Écouteurs. L'écouteur de gauche est marqué en BLEU et le droit en

ROUGE. Lorsque les écouteurs sont correctement insérés, le logo Shu-

re doit apparaître à l'endroit sur l'extérieur de l'écouteur, la sortie du câ-

ble étant orientée vers l'avant et vers le haut.

2) Inserts. Les écouteurs sont fournis avec une paire de manchons en

mousse (installés) et un assortiment d'essai de manchons flexibles-pe-

tits, moyens et grands.

3) Tube de réglage. Pour assurer une bonne tenue, faire coulisser le tube

de réglage d'avant en arrière pour supprimer le jeu des câbles allant

aux écouteurs.

4) Filtre répartiteur en ligne. Mélange de manière optimale les fréquen-

ces des deux amplificateurs.

5) Connecteur d'entrée. Une fiche de 3,5 mm se branche sur la sortie

stéréo de 3,5 mm d'un appareil d'écoute.

MISE EN PLACE DES ÉCOUTEURS

1. Insérer les écouteurs de la manière suivante :

• Noter la différence entre les écouteurs gauche et droit :

écouteur avec une pastille bleue = oreille gauche

écouteur avec une pastille rouge = oreille droite

• Pendant l'insertion, tirer l'oreille vers le haut et vers l'extérieur pour aligner le con-

duit auditif.

2. Passer le câble ajusté sur le haut de l'oreille et le laisser redescendre à

l'arrière.

3. Utiliser le tube de réglage pour assujettir les câbles afin qu'ils ne soient

pas gênants.

• Inserts flexibles - Essayer les

différentes tailles pour déterminer

celle qui offre le plus de confort et

la meilleure isolation.

• Inserts en mousse - Comprimer

l'insert en mousse au bout de

l'écouteur en le roulant entre le

pouce et l'index avant d'insérer

l'écouteur. Maintenir l'écouteur

en place pendant environ 10

secondes pendant que la mousse

se dilate et forme un joint étanche.

• La qualité de la réponse en fréquen-

ce et de l'isolation sonore dépend de

l'étanchéité des inserts. Si l'écouteur

semble ne pas fournir une bonne réponse en basse fréquence, l'insérer plus

profondément dans l'oreille pour obtenir une meilleure étanchéité ou essayer un

autre type d'insert.

ATTÉNUATEUR DE NIVEAU

Le PA235 permet de régler le volume lors du branchement des écouteurs sur

le système de sonorisation d'un siège d'avion. Il est prévu uniquement pour

l'utilisation à bord d'un avion. Il n'est pas prévu pour l'utilisation avec d'autres

sources audio.

Pour utiliser le PA235 :

1. Brancher la fiche de 3,5 mm des écouteurs sur la prise femelle du

PA235.

2. Baisser complètement le volume du PA235 (vers –).

3. Brancher le PA235 sur la sortie audio de 3,5 mm du siège de l'avion.

4. Insérer les écouteurs dans les oreilles (voir Mise en place des

écouteurs).

5. Monter légèrement le volume du PA235 (vers +).

6. Régler le volume au niveau du siège comme suit :

• S'il y a distorsion du signal audio, baisser le volume au niveau du

siège.

• S'il n'y a pas de distorsion mais présence de bruit de fond, monter

le volume au niveau du siège.

7. Régler le volume du PA235 jusqu'à un niveau d'écoute confortable.

REMARQUE : le programme peut être interrompu par des annon-

ces à haut volume provenant du pilote. Pour ne pas être gêné, régler

le volume juste assez fort pour un niveau d'écoute confortable.

TYPES D'INSERTS

CHANGEMENT DES INSERTS

Faire glisser les inserts sur l'extrémité des écouteurs pour les remplacer. Il est

conseillé de tourner en tirant pour enlever les inserts.

Manchons à bague triple. Ces inserts réutilisables for-

ment un joint plus étanche que les inserts flexibles tout en

maintenant les écouteurs solidement en place. Ils doivent

être nettoyés régulièrement avec un tampon imbibé d'alco-

l ou un antiseptique.

Manchons flexibles. Ces manchons réutilisables, en plasti-

que souple transparent (PA756) ou en caoutchouc silicone

mou gris (PA758), s’ajustent confortablement dans l’oreille et

facilitent l’insertion. Choisir celle des trois tailles—petite,

moyenne ou grande—qui convient le mieux. Ils doivent être nettoyés régu-

lièrement avec un tampon imbibé d’alcool ou un antiseptique.

Inserts en mousse. Ces inserts jetables en mousse se

compriment pour s'adapter au conduit auditif. Une fois

dans l'oreille, la mousse se dilate pour former un joint étan-

che qui maintient les écouteurs fermement en place.

REMARQUE : Chaque insert en mousse comprend un côté ru-

gueux et un côté lisse. Pour plus de confort, Shure recommande

de placer le côté lisse vers l'extérieur, à l'opposé de l'écouteur.

ENTRETIEN DES ÉCOUTEURS

Suivre les conseils ci-dessous pour éviter les réparations coûteuses et les otites :

• Éviter que l'humidité ne pénètre dans l'embout car cela peut affecter la

qualité du son. L'écouteur peut cesser provisoirement de fonctionner

si de la sueur entre dans l'embout. Le fonctionnement normal reprend

souvent une fois l'écouteur séché.

• Éviter de heurter ou de laisser tomber les écouteurs. Les chocs inten-

ses peuvent les endommager

• Nettoyer les embouts après chaque utilisation à l'aide de l'outil de net-

toyage anti-cérumen fourni (voir figure 1).

• Remettre les écouteurs dans la pochette de transport quand ils ne sont

pas utilisés.

• Jeter et remplacer régulièrement les inserts en mousse.
