i Exposure to high-level electromagnetic interference, as specified in
EN50082-1, may lead to loss of performance of the Modis in some
circumstances. Use of this instrument is limited to domestic, commercial
and light industry applications. If equipment that generates very strong
electromagnetic interferenceis located nearby, the instrument may pick-up
and display unexpected waveforms and voltage levels. The use of
shielded test leads is recommended in these situations.

MODIS™ Documentation
• Always read the Safety Precautions booklet, supplied in print.
• Always read the documentation supplied (in print or on CD).
If the manuals are supplied on CD, the manuals are supplied in PDF format. To
read them, it is required that Acrobat Reader V4 or higher is installed. The
installation files can be found on the CD or downloaded from www.adobe.com
.
Refer to the booklet in the CD case.
Scanner Plug-In specific cautions
When operating the Modis™ in the Scanner Plug-In mode:
• Prior to performing actuator tests, ensure the Modis™ gets its power from
the external, supplied, power adaptor.
• Reason: if the vehicle starts, the vehicle’s battery voltage drops. If the
charge level of the internal battery is low, the battery may not supply
sufficient power to maintain communication with the vehicle ECU. This may
end the communication with the ECU in a wrong way, causing problems.
• NEVER remove the external OR internal power supply from MODIS™ OR
switch off MODIS™ without first properly shutting off the communication.
• NEVER select the RESET button as long as the vehicle communication has
not been properly shut off.
To shut off communication properly:
1. In the Scanner Plug-In ‘Main Menu’, select ‘OTHER SYSTEMS’/’STOP
COMMUNICATION’.
2. As soon as the system list appears, exit (press ‘N’/’X’)
3. One returns to the Vehicle Identification screen.
4. Communication with the ECU is now shut off.

Sicherheitsvorkehrungen Scanner-Plugin
Beim Betrieb des Modis™ im Scanner-Plugin-Modus:
• Vor Stellgliedtests sicherstellen, dass Modis™ über den externen,
mitgelieferten Netzadapter mit Strom versorgt wird.
• Grund: beim Starten des Fahrzeugs fällt die Spannung der Fahrzeugbatterie
ab. Ist die interne Batterie fast leer, dann liefert die Batterie eventuell nicht
genug Energie, um die Kommunikation mit dem Fahrzeugsteuergerät
aufrechtzuerhalten. Das kann dazu führen, dass die Kommunikation mit
dem Steuergerät nicht richtig beendet wird und sich Probleme ergeben.
• NIEMALS die externe ODER interne Stromversorgung des MODIS™
trennen ODER das MODIS™ abschalten, ohne zuerst die Kommunikation
richtig zu beenden.
• NIEMALS die RESET-Taste benutzen, solange die Fahrzeug-
Kommunikation nicht richtig beendet wurde.
Um die Kommunikation richtig zu beenden:
1. Wählen Sie im Hauptmenü des Scanner-Plugins ‘Andere Systeme’.
2. Sobald die Systemliste erscheint, beenden Sie (‘N’/’X’ drücken).
3. Sie gelangen zum Bildschirm "Fahrzeug-ID" zurück.
4. Die Kommunikation mit dem Steuergerät ist nun beendet.

Precauciones específicas de Complemento del
escáner
Cuando se ejecuta Modis™ en modo Complemento del escáner:
• Antes de realizar las pruebas de los actuadores, asegúrese de que Modis™
recibe alimentación del adaptador externo que se ha proporcionado.
• Motivo: si el vehículo arranca, baja el voltaje de la batería. Si el nivel de
carga de la batería interna es bajo, puede que la batería no proporcione la
corriente suficiente como para mantener la comunicación con la UCE del
vehículo. Si esto sucede, puede que la comunicación con la UCE no finalice
correctamente y que se produzcan problemas.
• NO desconecte nunca las fuentes de alimentación externa o interna de
MODIS™ NI apague MODIS™ sin cerrar previamente la comunicación de
forma correcta.
• NO seleccione nunca el botón RESTABLECER mientras no se haya
cerrado correctamente la comunicación con el vehículo.
Para cerrar la comunicación correctamente:
1. En el menú principal Complemento del escáner, seleccione Otro sistema.
2. Salga (pulsando N/X) en cuanto aparezca la lista del sistema.
3. Regrese a la pantalla Identificación del vehículo.
4. En este momento se ha cerrado la comunicación con la UCE.

Plug-in Scanner – Précautions particulières
Lorsque vous utilisez Modis™ en mode Plug-In Scanner:
• Avant d’effectuer des tests sur les organes de commande, vérifiez que
Modis™ est alimenté par l’adaptateur d’alimentation externe fourni.
• Raison : si le véhicule démarre, la tension de la batterie du véhicule chute.
Si la charge de la batterie est faible, il se peut que l’alimentation ne soit pas
suffisante pour maintenir la communication avec l’ECU du véhicule. Cela
peut arrêter incorrectement la communication avec l’ECU et provoquer des
problèmes.
• N’enlevez JAMAIS l’alimentation externe ou interne de MODIS™ ET
n’éteignez JAMAIS MODIS™ sans arrêter correctement la communication
auparavant.
• Ne sélectionnez JAMAIS le bouton de réinitialisation (RESET) tant que la
communication avec le véhicule n’a pas été correctement arrêtée.
Pour arrêter correctement la communication:
1. Dans le ‘Menu principal’ du Plug-In Scanner, sélectionnez ‘Autre système’.
2. Dès que la liste des systèmes s’affiche, quittez (appuyez sur ‘N’/’X’)
3. Vous revenez alors à l’écran d’identification du véhicule.
4. La communication avec l’ECU est alors coupée.

Avvertenze specifiche per il plug-in scanner.
Quando si attiva il sistema Modis™ in modalità plug-in scanner:
• Prima di effettuare le prove dell'attuatore, accertarsi che il sistema Modis™
sia alimentato tramite l'adattatore esterno fornito in dotazione.
• Motivo: se la vettura viene avviata, si verifica un calo di tensione della
batteria della vettura. Se il livello di carica della batteria interna è basso, la
batteria potrebbe non fornire alimentazione sufficiente per mantenere la
comunicazione con la ECU della vettura. Questo potrebbe interrompere la
comunicazione con la ECU in un modo sbagliato, causando problemi.
• Non rimuovere MAI l'alimentazione esterna O interna dal sistema MODIS™
O spegnere il sistema MODIS™ senza aver prima interrotto correttamente
la comunicazione.
• Non selezionare MAI il pulsante AZZERA fino a che la comunicazione non
sia stata correttamente interrotta.
Per interrompere correttamente la
comunicazione:
1. Dal Menu principale del plug-in scanner, selezionare Altri sistemi.
2. Appena viene visualizzato l'elenco dei sistemi, uscire (premere ‘N’/’X’)
3. In questo modo si ritorna alla schermata Identificazione vettura.
4. La comunicazione con la ECU è ora interrotta.

Speciale waarschuwingen voor de
scanner-plug-in
Wanneer u de Modis™ gebruikt in de modus Scanner-plug-in, moet u op het
volgende letten:
• Controleer of de Modis™ wordt gevoed door de externe, meegeleverde
voedingsadapter voordat u actuatortests uitvoert.
• Reden: als het voertuig start, daalt de accuspanning van het voertuig. Als
de spanning van de interne batterij laag is, heeft deze mogelijk onvoldoende
voeding om communicatie met de voertuig-ECU te handhaven. Hierdoor
kan de communicatie met de ECU op de verkeerde manier worden
beëindigd, wat tot problemen kan leiden.
• Verwijder NOOIT de externe OF interne voeding van MODIS™ EN schakel
MODIS™ nooit uit zonder de communicatie eerst op de juiste manier te
beëindigen.
• Selecteer NOOIT de knop RESET zolang de voertuigcommunicatie niet op
de juiste manier is afgesloten.
U sluit de communicatie als volgt op de juiste
manier af
1. Selecteer in het hoofdmenu van de scanner-plug-in de optie ‘Ander
systeem’.
2. Zodra de lijst met systemen wordt weergegeven, sluit u af (druk op N/X).
3. U gaat terug naar het scherm Voertuigidentificatie.
4. De communicatie met de ECU is nu afgesloten.
