BR 24 Steppenpferd in Preußen.

Für die ﬂachen, langen Nebenstrecken Ost- und Westpreu-

ßens wurden von 1926 und 1938 insgesamt 95 Stück der

Baureihe 24 beschafft. Die als „Steppenpferd“ bezeichnete

Lokomotive war als Personenzuglok konzipiert, wurde aber

bald als Mehrzwecklokomotive verwendet. Die 16,96 m lan-

ge Maschine, die eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 90 km/h

erreichte, war eine Parallelbaureihe der BR 64 und bewährte

sich in den ihr zugeteilten Aufgaben sehr gut. Durch die Tei-

lung Deutschlands und die Gebietsabtretungen an Polen ka-

men schließlich 38 Maschinen zur Deutschen Bundesbahn,

wo sie weiterhin auf Nebenstrecken, oft mit Donnerbüchsen,

wertvolle Dienste verrichteten. Nach und nach wurde sie

vielerorts von den roten Schienenbussen der Baureihen VT

95 und VT 98 verdrängt, wurde ausgemustert und verschrot-

tet. Ihr letztes BW war Rheydt, von dort verabschiedete sie

sich 1966 aus dem planmäßigen Dienst bei der Deutschen

Bundesbahn. In Polen konnte man auf die 34 verlässlichen

Maschinen, die man nach dem 2. Weltkrieg übernahm, bis

1976 nicht verzichten. 4 Steppenpferde sind bis heute museal

erhalten geblieben, eine davon ist aus dem Bestand der pol-

nischen Staatseisenbahn (PKB).

Information about the Prototype

Class 24 - Prairie Pony in Prussia.

Between 1926 and 1938, a total of 95 units of the class 24

were purchased for the ﬂat, long branch lines in East and

West Prussia. These locomotives were nicknamed the

„Prairie Pony“ and were designed as a passenger locomotive,

but were soon used as a general-purpose locomotive. This 1

6.96 meter / 55 foot 7-11/16 inch long locomotive reached a

maximum speed of 90 km/h / 56 mph. It was a parallel class to

the class 64 and gave very good results in the tasks assigned

to it. The division of Germany and the areas surrendered to

Poland resulted in 38 units ﬁnally coming to the German Fed-

eral Railroad, where they continued to perform valuable ser-

vice on branch lines, often with „Donnerbüchsen / Thunder

Box“ passenger cars. Gradually, they were replaced in many

locations by the class VT 95 and VT 98 red rail busses, were

retired and scrapped. They last home base was Rheydt; there

they left regular service in 1966 on the German Federal Rail-

road. In Poland the 34 locomotives left there after World War

II were indispensable up to 1976. Four Prairie Ponies remain

preserved as museum pieces; one of them is from the roster

of the Polish State Railroad (PKB).

BR 24 - Cheval des steppes en Prusse

Au total, 95 unités de la série 24 furent acquises entre 1926

et 1938 pour les longues lignes secondaires de plaine de la

Prusse orientale et occidentale. La locomotive, surnommée «

cheval des steppes », avait été conçue pour les trains voya-

geurs, mais elle fut bientôt utilisée comme locomotive poly-

valente. La machine de 16,96 m de long, qui pouvait atteindre

une vitesse maximale de 90 km/h, était une série parallèle de

la BR 64 et ﬁt brillamment ses preuves pour les tâches qui

lui furent conﬁées. Du fait de la division de l‘Allemagne et de

la cession de terrains à la Pologne, 38 machines revinrent

ﬁnalement à la DB où elles continuèrent à rendre de précieux

services sur les lignes secondaires, souvent accompagnées

des « Donnerbüchsen » (voitures « boîtes à tonnerre »).

Progressivement remplacées en de nombreux endroits par

les autorails rouges des séries VT 95 et VT 98, elles furent

réformées et ferraillées. Leur dernier dépôt fut Rheydt où

elles ﬁrent leurs adieux au service régulier de la Deutsche

Bundesbahn en 1996. En Pologne, il fut impossible, jusqu‘en

1976, de se passer des 34 machines ﬁables que l‘on avait

récupérées après la seconde guerre mondiale. Quatre « che-

vaux des steppes » ont pu être conservés jusqu‘à aujourd‘hui

comme locomotives-musée, l‘une d‘entre elles est issue du

parc des chemins de fer polonais (PKB).

BR 24 - Steppenpaard in Pruisen.

Voor de vlakke, lange zijlijnen in Oost- en West-Pruisen wer-

den van 1926 tot 1938 in totaal 95 exemplaren van de serie 24

aangeschaft. De als „Steppenpaard“ aangeduide locomotief

was als reizigerstreinloc geconcipieerd, maar werd al spoe-

dig als multifunctionele locomotief gebruikt. De 16,96 m lange

machine, die een maximumsnelheid van 90 km/h bereikte,

was een parallelle bouwserie aan de BR 64 en bewees zich

in de haar toebedeelde taken zeer goed. Door de deling van

Duitsland en de afstand van de gebieden aan Polen kwamen

tenslotte 38 machines naar de Deutsche Bundesbahn, waar

ze daarna op zijlijnen, vaak met Donnerbüchsen, waarde-

volle diensten verrichtten. Langzaamaan werden ze op vele

plaatsen door de rode railbussen van de serie VT 95 en VT 98

verdrongen, werden ze buiten dienst gesteld en verschroot.

Haar laatste depot was Rheydt, van daaruit nam ze in 1966 af-

scheid uit de reguliere dienst bij de Deutsche Bundesbahn. In

Polen kon men de 34 betrouwbare machines, die men na de

Tweede Wereldoorlog overnam, tot 1976 niet missen. 4 Step-

penpaarden zijn tot op heden museaal behouden gebleven,

een daarvan in het bestand van de Poolse Staatsspoorwegen

(PKB).

sistema di funzionamento.

• Perilfunzionamentotradizionaledellalocomotivailbinariodi

alimentazione deve essere protetto dai disturbi. A tale scopo

si deve impiegare il corredo antidisturbi 74046. Tale corredo

antidisturbi non è adatto per il funzionamento Digital.

diretto, a forti escursioni di temperatura oppure a elevata
