The users manual contains information and references, necessary for safe ope-

ration and maintenance of the instrument. Prior to using the instrument the

user is kindly requested to thoroughly read the users manual and comply with

it in all sections.

Failure to read the users manual or to comply with the warnings and references con-

tained herein can result in serious bodily injury or instrument damage

Introduction

The Meterman AC50 is a universal, multi-purpose electrical measuring instrument.

It comply with the standards DIN VDE 0411 and EN 61010, and provide safe, reli-

able operation. The Leakage Clamp is a valuable tool for all sorts of measurements

in both trade and industry.

Transport and Storage

• Please keep the original packaging for later transport, e.g. for calibration. Any

transport damage due to faulty packaging will be excluded from warranty claims.

• In order to avoid instrument damage, it is advised to remove batteries when not

using the instrument over a certain time period. However, should the instrument

be contaminated by leaking battery cells, you are kindly requested to return it to

the factory for cleaning and inspection.

• Instruments must be stored in dry and closed areas. In the case of an instrument

being transported in extreme temperatures, a recovery time of minimum 2 hours

is required prior to instrument operation.

Safety

• The METERMAN Leakage Clamp AC50 has been manufactured and tested to

comply with the safety regulations for electronic measuring equipment contained

in IEC61010 and EN 61010, and left the factory in a safe condition. To maintain

this condition, the user must observe the safety instructions contained in this

users manual.

• To avoid electric shock, safety measures must be observed when working with

voltages higher than 70V d.c. or 33 V r.m.s.(46.7 V peak).

• Before each measurement make sure that the test leads and the instrument are

undamaged.

• Only handle test leads and probes on the grips provided. Avoid touching probes

under any circumstances.

• Measurements in dangerous proximity of electrical installations are only to be

executed when instructed by a responsible electrical specialist, and never alone.

• The relevant safety regulations for electrical plant and equipment must be obser-

ved during all operations.

• The instrument must only be used in the specified ranges.

• Before opening the instrument, it must be disconnected from all circuits.

• Protect the instrument from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Appropriate Usage

• The instrument may only be used under those conditions and for those purposes

for which it was conceived. For this reason, in particular the safety references, the

technical data including environmental conditions and the usage in dry environ-

ments must be followed.

• When modifying or changing the instrument, the operational safety is no longer

ensured.

• The instrument may only be opened by an authorised service technician, e.g. for

fuse replacement.

Preparation and safety measures

Installing the battery

Before using the instrument, the battery must be installed. This is carried out as fol-

lows:

1) Separate the instrument from any circuit, and remove the test leads.

2) Open the housing by removing the screw on the rear face.

3) Fit a new battery (type 1.5 V IEC LR6), taking care that the polarity is correct. Ma-

kesure that no wires are trapped between the 2 halves of the housing, and close

itagain

4) The instrument is now ready for use.

• The selector switch must be turned to the desired type of measurement before the

probes are connected to the unit under test (UUT).

• Before switching to a new function, the probes must always be removed from the

UUT.

• Use the instrument only in clean and dry surroundings. Dirt and moisture reduce

the effectiveness of the insulation, with consequent danger of electric shock,

especially when dealing with high voltages.

• Use the instrument only in the specified ranges. Before making measurements,

verify that the instrument is functioning properly, for example by testing on a known

voltage or current. Make sure that the test leads are undamaged.

Current Measurements

If tangible dangerous active parts are present in the plant where you are ma-

king measurements, individual protection equipment (e.g. suitable covers)

must be used.

Always hold the instrument below the handle shroud.

The respective accident prevention regulations established by the professional

associations are to be strictly enforced at all times regarding tasks executed

under voltage or in proximity of parts under voltage.

1) Turn selector switch (2) to the AC current range you need

2) Open the clamp, and close it round the conductor. Make sure that the clamp pro-

perly encircles the conductor, and that there is no air gap between the jaws. For

best measurement results and highest accuracy, have the conductor placed in

center of clamp jaws.

For incorrect measurement, the display equals zero. In compliance with the Kirch-

hoff's current law states the sum of all currents equals zero. However, this measu-

rement layout in conjunction with a very sensitive current clamp can be used to mea-

sure leakage currents.

If the display is not visible during measurement, press the "HOLD" button (3)

to retain the display. The clamp can then be removed from the conductor and

the stored value read.

Voltage Measurements

Do not connect more than 600 V AC / DC to the input sockets. Exceeding these

values can endanger the operator, and may result in damage to the instrument.

Before switching to a new function, disconnect the probes from the UUT.

Only handle test leads and probes on the grips provided. Avoid touching the

probes under any circumstances.

1) Turn selector switch (2) to 400V

2) Plug the black test lead into the "COM" socket and the red lead into the "VΩ"

socket

3) Connect the probes to the UUT and read the display

If the display is not visible during measurement, press the "HOLD" button (3)

to retain the display. The probes can then be removed from the conductor and

the stored value read.

Resistance Measurements / Continuity

Disconnect the UUT from all sources of supply and check that it is at zero

voltage.

1) Turn selector switch (2) to Ω/

2) Plug the black test lead into the "COM" socket and the red lead into the "+" socket

3) Connect the probes to the UUT and read the display

If the display is not visible during measurement, press the "HOLD" button (3)

to retain the display. The probes can then be removed from the conductor and

the stored value read.

Continuity: At a resistance less than 40 Ω(< 40 Ω) a signal is audible.

MIN/MAX and peak values/ Auto Power Off

The MIN/MAX button can be used to find either the largest or the smallest value of

a series of measurements. Pressing the MIN/MAX button activates first the MIN

mode, so that the smallest value is selected.

Pressing it a second time changes to MAX mode, for the largest value. Pres-

sing the button a third time returns the instrument to normal operation.

Maintenance

Provided it is used in accordance with the users manual, the instrument needs no

special maintenance.

Cleaning

If the instrument is dirty after daily usage, it is advised to clean it by using a humid

cloth and a mild household detergent.

Prior to cleaning, ensure that instrument is switched off and disconnected from

external voltage supply and any other instruments connected (such as UUT,

control instruments, etc.).

Never use acid detergents or dissolvants for cleaning.

Changing the battery

Prior to storage battery replacement, disconnect the instrument from any

circuits.

Only use batteries as described in the technical data section.

• If the symbol for Low-battery appears in the upper left corner of the display, the

battery must be changed.

This is carried out as follows:

1) Separate the Meterman Leakage Clamp AC50 from any circuit, and remove the

test leads.

2) Switch the instrument off

3) Open the housing by removing the 3 screws on the rear face.

4) Remove the old batteries

5) Insert a new batteries (type 2 x 1,5 V IEC LR6), taking care that the polarity is cor-

rect. Make sure that no wires are trapped between the 2 halves of the housing,

and close it again.

6) The instrument is now ready for further use.

Please consider your environment when you dispose of your one-way batteries or

accumulators. They belong in a rubbish dump for hazardous waste. In most cases,

the batteries can be returned to their point of sale.

Please, comply with the respective valid regulation regarding the return, recy-

cling and disposal of used batteries and accumulators.

If an instrument is not used over an extended time period, the batteries must be re-

moved. Should the instrument be contaminated by leaking battery cells, the instru-

ment has to be returned for cleaning and inspection to the factory.

Calibration Interval

We suggest a calibration interval of one year. If the instrument is used very often or

if it is used under rough conditions we recommend shorter intervals. If the instru-

ment is used only a few times a year, the calibration interval can be extended to 3

years.

year from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover fuses, disposable bat-

teries or damage from accident, neglect, misuse, alteration, contamination, or ab-

normal conditions of operation or handling. Resellers are not authorized to extend

any other warranty on Meterman’s behalf. To obtain service during the warranty pe-

check, a money order, credit card with expiration date, or a purchase order made

re requesting repair. During the warranty period any defective test tool can be retur-

Hinweise:

Die Bedienungsanleitung enthält Informationen und Hinweise, die zu einer si-

cheren Bedienung und Nutzung des Gerätes notwendig sind. Vor der Verwen-

dung des Gerätes ist die Bedienungsanleitung aufmerksam zu lesen und in

allen Punkten zu befolgen.

Wird die Anleitung nicht beachtet oder sollten Sie es versäumen, die Warnungen

und Hinweise zu beachten, können ernste Verletzungen des Anwenders bzw. Be-

schädigungen des Gerätes eintreten.

Einleitung / Lieferumfang

Die METERMAN Stromzange AC50 ist ein universell einsetzbares Instrument. Das

Messgerät wird nach den Normen gebaut und gewährleistet ein sicheres und zuver-

lässiges Arbeiten. Die Stromzange ist im handwerklichen und industriellen Bereich

eine wertvolle Hilfe. Durch die sehr hohe Empfindlichkeit des Strombereiches, kann

der Ableitstrom (Leckstrom) eines Verbrauchers gemessen werden.

Transport und Lagerung

• Bitte bewahren Sie die Originalverpackung für eine spätere Versendung, z.B. zur

Kalibration auf. Transportschäden aufgrund mangelhafter Verpackung sind von

der Garantie ausgeschlossen.

• Um Beschädigungen zu vermeiden, sollten die Batterien entnommen werden,

wenn das Messgerät über einen längeren Zeitraum nicht benutzt wird. Sollte es

dennoch zu einer Verunreinigung des Gerätes durch ausgelaufene Batteriezellen

gekommen sein, muß das Gerät zur Reinigung und Überprüfung ins Werk einge-

sandt werden.

• Die Lagerung des Gerätes muß in trockenen, geschlossenen Räumen erfolgen.

Sollte das Gerät bei extremen Temperaturen transportiert worden sein, benötigt

es vor dem Einschalten eine Aklimatisierung von mindestens 2 Stunden.

Sicherheitsmaßnahmen

• Die METERMAN Stromzange AC50 wurde gemäß den Sicherheitsbestimmungen

IEC 61010, EN 61010 für elektronische Messgeräte gebaut, geprüft und hat das

Werk in sicherheitstechnisch einwand-freiem Zustand verlassen. Um diesen Zu-

stand zu erhalten, muß der Anwender die Sicherheitshinweise in dieser Anleitung

beachten.

• Um einen elektrischen Schlag zu vermeiden, sind Vorsichtsmaßnahmen zu be-

achten, wenn mit Spannungen größer als 70V d.c. oder 33 V r.m.s.(46.7 V max.)

gearbeitet wird.

• Vor jeder Messung vergewissern, dass die Messleitungen und die Prüfgeräte in

einwandfreiem Zustand sind.

• Die Messleitungen und Prüfspitzen dürfen nur an den vorgesehenen Handgriffen

(Griffflächen) angefaßt werden. Das Berühren der Prüfspitzen ist unter allen Um-

ständen zu vermeiden.

• Messungen in gefährlicher Nähe elektrischer Anlagen sind nur nach Anweisung

einer verantwortlichen Elektrofachkraft und nicht alleine durchzuführen.

• Bei sämtlichen Arbeiten müssen die Unfallverhütungsvorschriften der gewerbli-

chen Berufsgenossenschaften für elektrische Anlagen und Betriebsmittel beach-

tet werden.

• Die Prüfgeräte dürfen nur in den spezifizierten Messbereichen eingesetzt werden.

• Vor dem Öffnen des Batteriefachs müssen die Geräte von allen Messkreisen ge-

trennt werden.

• Eine Erwärmung der Geräte durch direkte Sonneneinstrahlung ist zu vermeiden.

Nur so kann eine einwandfreie Funktion und eine lange Lebensdauer gewährlei-

stet werden.

Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung

• Das Gerät darf nur unter den Bedingungen und für die Zwecke eingesetzt werden,

für die es konstruiert wurde. Hierzu sind besonders die Sicherheitshinweise, die

Technischen Daten mit den Umgebungsbedingungen und die Verwendung in trok-

kener Umgebung zu beachten.

• Die Betriebssicherheit ist bei Modifizierung oder Umbauten nicht mehr gewähr-

leistet.

• Das Gerät darf nur vom autorisierten Servicetechniker, geöffnet werden.

Durchführung von Messungen

Vorbereitung und Sicherheitsmaßnahmen

Batterien einlegen:

Bevor das Gerät in Betrieb genommen wird, müssen die Batterien eingelegt werden.

Dazu wird folgendermaßen vorgegangen.

1) Das Gerät muß vom Messkreis getrennt und alle Messleitungen entfernt werden.

2) Das Gehäuse wird geöffnet, indem die Schraube auf der Rückseite des Gerätes

gelöst wird und der Batteriefachdeckel in Pfeil-richtung gezogen wird.

3) Die neuen Batterien vom Typ 1,5 V IEC LR6 müssen richtig gepolt eingesetzt und

das Gehäuse wieder verschlossen werden.

4) Nun kann mit den Messungen begonnen werden.

• Der Messart-Wahlschalter muß auf der gewünschten Funktion stehen, bevor die

Prüfspitzen mit dem Messobjekt verbunden werden.

• Vor dem Umschalten auf eine neue Funktion oder einen anderen Messbereich sind

die Messleitungen stets von den Prüfobjekten zu entfernen.

• Die Geräte dürfen nur in trockener und sauberer Umgebung eingesetzt werden.

Schmutz und Feuchtigkeit setzen die Isolationswiderstände herab und können ins-

besondere bei großen Spannungen zu elektrischen Schlägen führen.

• Die Geräte dürfen nur in den angegebenen Messbereichen benutzt werden.

• Vor jeder Benutzung müssen die Geräte auf einwandfreie Funktion geprüft

werden (z.B. an einer bekannten Strom- bzw. Spannungsquelle).

• Es ist darauf zu achten, dass die Messleitungen in einwandfreiem Zustand sind.

Durchführen von Strommessungen

Sind berührbare gefährliche aktive Teile in der zu messenden Anlage vorhan-

den, müssen individuelle Schutzgeräte (z.B. geeignete Abdeckungen) verwen-

det werden.

Bei Strommessungen jeder Art darf das Gerät nur im Griffbereich - begrenzt

durch den Griffschutzkragen - gehalten werden. Der Griffschutzkragen be-

grenzt den Bereich für das sichere Berühren des Gerätes und verhindert ein

versehentliches Abrutschen der Hand in den vorderen, ungesicherten Bereich

der Stromzange.

Die Sicherheitsmaßnahmen der Unfallverhütungsvorschriften bzgl. Arbeiten an

unter Spannung und in der Nähe unter Spannung stehender Teile müssen be-

achtet werden.

Vor dem Umschalten auf eine neue Funktion oder einen anderen Messbereich

ist die Zange stets vom Prüfobjekt zu entfernen.

1) Den Messart-Wahlschalter (2) entsprechend dem zu erwartenden Strom auf

Stellung "60 A, 40 A, 4 A, 400 mA oder 40 mA;" stellen.

2) Stromzange öffnen und den Stromleiter umschließen. Es ist darauf zu achten,

dass die Zange den Stromleiter vollständig umschließt und kein Luftspalt vor-

handen ist.

Keine korrekte Messung, die Anzeige ist gleich null, da nach der ersten Kirchhoffschen

Regel die Summe aller Ströme gleich null ist. Jedoch läßt sich bei dieser Messanord-

nung mit einer empfindlichen Stromzange der Ableitstrom des Verbrauchers messen.

Wenn die Anzeige während der Messung nicht einsehbar ist, kann der Mess-

wert mit dem Schalter (3) "HOLD" festgehalten werden. Danach wird die Zange

vom Messobjekt entfernt und der auf der Anzeige gespeicherte Wert abgelesen.

Durchführen von Spannungsmessungen

Es dürfen nicht mehr als 600 V AC an den Eingangsbuchsen angelegt werden.

Bei Überschreiten dieser Grenzwerte droht eine Beschädigung des Gerätes und

eine Gefährdung des Bedieners.

Vor dem Umschalten auf eine neue Funktion oder einen anderen Messbereich

sind die Messleitungen stets vom Prüfobjekt zu entfernen.

Die Messleitungen und Prüfspitzen dürfen nur an den dafür vorgesehenen

Handgriffen angefaßt werden. Das Berühren der Prüfspitzen ist unter allen Um-

ständen zu vermeiden.

1) Den Messart-Wahlschalter (2) auf "400 V" stellen.

2) Die schwarze Messleitung mit dem "COM"-Anschluß und die rote Messleitungen

mit dem "V¨Ω"-Anschluß verbinden.

3) Die Prüfspitzen mit dem Prüfobjekt verbinden. Lesen Sie den Messwert von der

Anzeige ab.

Wenn die Anzeige während der Messung nicht einsehbar ist, kann der Mess-

wert mit dem Schalter (3) "HOLD" festgehalten werden. Danach werden die

Messleitungen vom Messobjekt entfernt und der auf der Anzeige gespeicherte

Wert abgelesen.
