VOTRE CHRONOMÈTRE BREITLING
Un chronomètre est un instrument horaire de haute précision qui a passé
avec succès toutes les épreuves imposées par le COSC (Contrôle Officiel
Suisse des Chronomètres), organisme neutre et indépendant qui teste indi-
viduellement chaque mouvement selon la prescription en vigueur.
L’épreuve de certification pour les chronomètres-bracelets à oscillateur à
balancier-spiral,
en vertu de la norme ISO 3159, consiste à observer chaque
mouvement durant 15 jours et 15 nuits, dans 5 positions et à 3 tempéra-
tures différentes (8°C, 23°C, 38°C). Pour obtenir le titre de chronomètre, les
performances d’un mouvement doivent répondre à 7 critères très stricts, dont
un écart de marche quotidien limité à –4/+6 secondes.
Le terme de «chronomètre» ne doit pas être confondu avec celui de
«chrono -
graphe», qui est une montre compliquée dotée d’un mécanisme additionnel
permettant de mesurer la durée d’un événement. Un chronographe n’est
pas forcément certifié chronomètre, mais tous les chronographes B
r e It LIn g
portent le titre très convoité de chronomètre.
MISE EN SERVICE
REMONTAGE – MISE À L’HEURE
Important: les montres mécaniques dotées d’un indicateur de
quan tième à guichet sont équip
ées d’un mécanisme compliqué
qui se déclenche entre 20h00 et 03h00. Il faut absolument éviter
toute manipulation du calendrier et toute mise à l’heure en arrière
durant cette période.
1. Dévisser la couronne étanche dans le sens anti-
horaire. r emonter la montre en effectuant environ 40
rotations de couronne dans le sens horaire.
2. t irer la couronne en position 2, la tourner dans le sens
horaire pour ajuster
le calendrier sur le jour précédant
la date de la mise en service.
3. t irer la couronne en position 3 et faire tourner les
heures en avant de manière à faire apparaître la date
exacte qui saute à minuit. Ajuster ensuite l’heure et la
minute.
4. r epousser la couronne en position 1. Appuyer légère-
ment sur celle-ci, en la tournant doucement dans le sens
horaire, et revisser jusqu’à ressentir une résistance
.

1. Appuyer sur le poussoir A pour enclencher le chrono -

poussoir A. La mesure s’effectue en heures (comp-
teur 1), minutes (compteur 2), en secondes et

II. MESURE D’UN TEMPS COURT AVEC INTERRUPTION
1. Appuyer sur le poussoir A pour enclencher le chrono -
graphe. L’aiguille 3 permet de suivre la mesure en
secondes.
2. Pour interrompre la mesure, appuyer à nouveau sur
le poussoir A. Pour reprendre la mesure du temps,
appuyer sur le poussoir A. Il est ainsi possible de
cumuler plusieurs temps courts.

Votre chronomètre B
r e It LIn g peut être utilisé comme boussole solaire, per-
mettant ainsi de déterminer la direction nord-sud. Pour les régions qui ont
instauré l’heure d’été, il convient de retrancher une heure lors de l’orientation
de la montre.
Utilisation dans l’hémisphère nord
Orienter avec précision l’aiguille des heures en direction
du soleil. Par rapport au cadran de la montre, le point
situé à mi-distance entre l’heure actuelle et 12h indi que
le sud, le nord se trouvant à l’opposé.
Utilisation dans l’hémisphère sud
Orienter avec précision l’index situé à 12h sur le cadran en
direction du soleil. Par rapport au cadran de la montre,

LUNETTE INDEX-HORAIRES UNIDIRECTIONNELLE
La lunette de votre montre est dotée de 12 index-
horai res; ils s’utilisent comme repères pour marquer
une heure de départ ou une heure limite dont on
veut se rappeler. Sur les modèles sans chrono-
graphe, ils servent en outre de «chrono-minutes»
permettant de mesurer, en minutes, le temps écoulé.
Pour des raisons de sécurité, la lunette ne peut êt
re
tournée que dans le sens contraire des ai guil les de la
montre.
Les cavaliers facilitent la rotation de la lunette en
garantissant sa meilleure prise (notamment lors du
port de gants) et assurent la protection de la glace.

MAINTENANCE
Votre chronomètre Br e It LIn g est un instrument sophistiqué fonctionnant en
permanence et sous les contraintes les plus diverses. Dans un volume très
restreint, une multitude de composants contribuent à en assurer toutes les
fonctions. Leur action mécanique engendre une usure inéluctable, que l’en-
tretien, par un renouvellement de la lubrification ainsi que par le remplace-
ment des composan
ts usagés, permet de maîtriser. Comme tout instrument
de mesure de précision, votre montre doit faire l’objet d’une maintenance
périodique pour fonctionner au mieux de son potentiel: il est recommandé
de procéder à ce service tous les deux ans, alors que la périodicité de la révi-
sion de votre montre est de l’ordre de cinq ans. Votre concessionnaire agréé

r e It LIn g prendra volontiers celle-ci en charge.
L’ÉTANCHÉITÉ
Le mouvement de votre chronomètre est protégé par un boîtier complexe
muni de joints qui assurent son étanchéité. Sous l’influence de divers agents
extérieurs – transpiration, eau chlorée ou salée, cosmétiques, parfums ou
poussière, ces joints se dégradent progressivement et doivent être réguliè-
rement remplacés. en cas d’utilisation intensive en milieu aquatique, il est
recommandé de pro
céder à un service de maintenance chaque année. Pour

une utilisation occasionnelle en milieu aquatique, cette opération s’effec-
tuera tous les deux ans. Par ailleurs, il est recommandé de procéder chaque
année à un contrôle d’étanchéité, qui ne prend que quelques minutes,

Les modèles B
r e It LIn g sont étanches à différents degrés. Le niveau d’étan-
chéité, exprimé en mètres, est une norme qui n’indique pas une profondeur
absolue d’immersion. La couronne et les poussoirs ne doivent en aucun cas
être actionnés sous l’eau ou lorsque la montre est mouillée. Le tableau ci-
dessous indique les conditions dans lesquelles votre montre peut raisonna-
blement être utilisée en fonction de son degré d’étanchéité:

YOUR BREITLING CHRONOMETER
A chronometer is a high-precision instrument that has successfully passed the
entire battery of tests imposed by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer
t esting Institute), a neutral and independent body which individually tests
each movement according to the prescriptions in force.
t he certification test for wristwatches with sprung balance oscillators,
according to the ISO 3159 norm, consists of observing each movement for
15 days and 15 nights, in 5 positions and at 3 different temperatures (8°, 23°C,
38°C). In order to earn the prestigious chronometer label, a movement’s
performances must meet 7 very strict criteria, including a daily variation in
rate ranging between only –4/+6 seconds.

PREPARING THE WATCH FOR USE
WINDING – TIME-SETTING
Nota bene: mechanical watches endowed with a date, day,
month or moon-phase indicator are equipped with a complex
mechanism that is set into motion between 8 pm and 3 am. It is
therefore vital to avoid adjusting the calendar or moving the
time backwards during this period.
1. Unscrew the water-resistant crown in an anti-clock-
wise direction. Wind the w
atch by 40 clockwise
turns of the crown.
2. Pull the crown out to position 2, turn it clockwise to
adjust the calendar to the day prior to the date
when it is set into operation.
3. Pull the crown out to position 3. t urn the hands so
as to make the calendar jump once when the hands
pass through midnight. t hen adjust the hour and
minute.
4. Push the crown back to position 1. Press it gently,
turning it gently in
a clockwise direction, then
tighten it again until you feel some resistance. Do
not force!
USING THE CHRONOGRAPH
I. M
EASURING A SINGLE SHORT TIME
1. Press pushpiece A to start the chronograph. Hand 3
shows the measurement in seconds.
2. Stop the measurement by pressing pushpiece A once
more. t he measurement is done in hours (totalizer 1),
minutes (totalizer 2), seconds and 1/4 of a second
(hand 3).
3. r eturn the chronograph to zero by pressing push-
piece B.

UNIDIRECTIONAL BEZEL WITH INDEX-MARKERS
t he bezel of your watch is marked with 12 index-
markers: they are used as points of reference to mark
the time of departure or a limit time one wishes to
remember. On models with no chronograph func-
tions, they also serve as “minute chronograph”
enabling one to measure time elapsed in minutes.
For safety, the bezel can only turn counterclo
ckwise.
r ider-tabs make it easier to rotate the bezel by giving
a better grip (especially when wearing gloves) and
additionally protect the glass.

MAINTENANCE
Your Br e It LIn g chronometer is a sophisticated instrument which is
constantly subjected to a wide variety of stresses and strains. Within a very
small volume, a large number of components contribute to handling all the
functions. t heir mechanical action inevitably leads to a certain amount of
wear and tear, which may be controlled by maintenance consisting of renew-
ing the lubrication and
replacing worn components. Like any precision
measurement instrument, your watch must be regularly maintained in
order to function at its highest level of potential: we recommend a regular
service every two years, while the complete overhaul should be scheduled
about every five years. Your authorized B

WATER-RESISTANCE
t he movement of your chronomete
r is protected by a complex case fitted
with gaskets to ensure its water-resistance. Under the influence of various
external agents – perspiration, chlorinated or salt water, cosmetics, fra-
grances or dust – these gaskets gradually deteriorate and must be regularly
replaced. If used intensively in water, we recommend that this be done
once a year as part of a service. If the watch is only occasionally
used in
water, this operation may be carried out every two years. Moreover, a

not to expose them to chemical products, solvents, dangerous gases, or

smoothly at temperatures ranging between 0°C and 50°C.

e in Chronometer ist ein hochpräzises Zeitmessinstrument, das sämtliche
vom COSC (Offizielle Schweizerische Chronometerkontrolle) vorgeschrie-
benen t ests erfolgreich bestanden hat. Diese neutrale und unabhängige
Organi sation prüft jedes einzelne Uhrwerk nach den geltenden Bestim-
mungen.
Bei der Zertifizierung nach der ISO-n orm 3159 wird jedes Uhrwerk eines
Armbandchronomete
rs mit Unruh-Spiralfeder-Oszillator während 15 t agen
und n ächten in fünf Positionen und bei drei verschiedenen t emperaturen
(8, 23 und 38 °C) geprüft. Für die Anerkennung als Chronometer müssen die
Werkleistungen sieben strenge Kriterien erfüllen, einschliesslich der maxi mal

Wichtig: Mechanische Uhren mit Datums-, Wochentags-,
Monats- oder Mondphasenanzeige sind mit einem komplexen
Mecha nis m
us ausgerüstet, der sich zwischen 20.00 und 03.00 Uhr
einschaltet. Während dieser Zeitspanne Kalender ein stellungen
oder Zei trück stellungen unbedingt unterlassen!
1. Die wasserdicht verschraubte Krone im g egenuhr-
zeigersinn lösen. Die Krone ca. 40-mal im Uhr zei-
ger sinn drehen.
2. Die Krone in Position 2 ziehen, und sie im Uhrzei-
gersinn drehen bis das Datum des t ages vor der
Inbetriebnahme erscheint.
3. Die Krone in Position 3 ziehen. Die Zeiger vorwärts
bewegen bis zum Datumswechsel um Mitternacht.
Danach die Zeiger auf die gewünschte Zeit stellen.
4. Die Krone wieder in Position 1 zurückstossen. Wäh -
rend des Drehens leichten Druck auf die Krone aus-
üben und sie bis zum spürbaren Widerstand ver-
schrauben. Nicht forcieren!

1. Drücker A betätigen, um den Chronographen in

SONNENKOMPASS
Für n ord/Süd-Bestimmungen kann Ihr B
r e It LIn g Chronometer als Sonnen-
kompass verwendet werden. In r egionen mit Sommerzeit ist bei der
Benutzung des Sonnenkompasses die Zeitverschiebung um eine Stunde
einzubeziehen.
Benutzung in der Nordhemisphäre
Den Stundenzeiger genau in r ichtung Sonne stellen.
Auf halber Distanz zwischen der Jetztzeit und 12 Uhr
auf dem Zifferblatt liegt Süden. n orden b
efindet sich
diagonal auf der gegenüber liegenden Zifferblattseite.
Benutzung in der Südhemisphäre
Den sich bei 12 Uhr befindlichen Index genau r ichtung
Sonne halten. Auf halber Distanz zwischen der Jetzt-
zeit und 12 Uhr auf dem Zifferblatt liegt n orden. Süden
befindet sich diagonal auf der gegenüber liegenden
Zifferblattseite.

BESONDERHEITEN
EINSEITIGE STUNDENINDEXE LÜNETTE
Die Lünette Ihrer Uhr weist 12 Stundenindexe auf.
Sie werden als Markierung einer Abfahrtzeit oder
einer Zeitlimite benützt, an die man sich erinnern
möchte. Bei den Modellen ohne Chronographen-
funktion dienen sie u. a. als «Minu ten-Chrono», der
die verstrichene Zeit in Minuten anzeigt.
Aus Sicherheitsgründen kann der r ing nur gegen
den Uhrzeigersinn gedr
eht werden.
Durch die griffigen r eiter, die das g las schützen,
lässt die Lünette sich problemlos (auch mit Hand-
schuhen) drehen.

WARTUNG
Ihr Br e It LIn g Chronometer ist ein hoch entwickeltes Instrument, das ununter -
brochen und oft unter schwierigsten Bedingungen arbeitet. Auf kleinstem
r aum spielen zahlreiche e inzelteile reibungslos zusammen und steuern
sämtliche Funktionen. Die mechanischen Abläufe führen unausweichlich
zu Abnutzungserscheinungen, die durch fachgerechte Wartung (Schmie-
ren und e rsetzen abgenutzter t eile) behob
en werden. Wie jedes
Präzisions zeit mess instrument muss Ihre Uhr regelmässig gewartet wer-
den, damit sie ihrem Potenzial entsprechend einwandfrei funktioniert. Wir
empfehlen alle zwei Jahre einen Service und alle fünf Jahre eine r evision,
die Ihr offizieller B
r e It LIn g Konzessionär gerne übernimmt.

or Wasser geschützt. Verschiedene äussere e inflüsse
wie t ranspiration, Chlor- oder Salzwasser, Kosmetika, Parfums oder Staub
können die Dichtungen beschädigen, weshalb sie regelmässig ausgetauscht
werden sollten. Bei intensivem g ebrauch im Wasser empfehlen wir einen
Überholservice pro Jahr. g elegentlich mit Wasser in Kontakt stehende
Uhren sollten alle zwei Jahre gewartet werden. Am besten lassen Sie I

Uhr jedes Jahr vom Br e It LIn g Konzessionär auf ihre Wasserdichtheit kon-
trollieren. Dieser t est dauert nur einige Minuten.
Der Wasserdichtheitswert, in Metern angegeben, variiert von Modell zu
Modell. Dabei handelt es sich um r ichtwerte und nicht um absolute t auch-
tiefen. Die Krone sowie die Drücker dürfen unter Wasser oder an nassen
Zeitmessern auf keinen Fall betätigt werden. Die t abelle unten gi

IL SUO CRONOMETRO BREITLING
Un cronometro è uno strumento orario di alta precisione che ha superato
con successo tutte le prove imposte dal Controllo Ufficiale Svizzero dei
Cronometri (COSC), un ente neutrale e indipendente che sottopo
ne a test
individuali ogni movimento in base alla normativa in vigore.
In base alla norma ISO 3159 la prova di certificazione per i cronometri da
polso muniti di oscillatore a bilanciere-spirale consiste nel tenere sotto
osservazione ogni movimento per 15 giorni e 15 notti, in 5 posizioni e a 3
diverse temperature (8° C, 23° C, 38° C). Per ottenere il titolo di cronometro le
prestazioni di un movimento devo
no rispettare 7 criteri precisi, fra cui uno
scarto di marcia contenuto entro –4/+6 secondi al giorno.
Il
«cronometro» non va confuso con il «cronografo», un orologio complicato
munito di un meccanismo aggiuntivo che permette di misurare la durata di
un avvenimento. Un cronografo non possiede necessariamente il certi ficato
di cronometro, mentre invece tutti i cronografi B
r e It LIn g possiedono l’ambi-
tissimo titolo di cronometro.

MESSA IN FUNZIONE
CARICA – REGOLAZIONE DELL’ORA
Importante! g li orologi meccanici provvisti di indicatore di data,
giorno, mese e fasi lunari posseggono un meccanismo complicato
che scatta tra le 20h00 e le 03h00. In questo arco di tempo occorre
evitare assolutamente di intervenire sul calendario e di riportare
indietro l’ora.
1. Svitare la corona impermeabile ruotandola in senso
antiorario. Caricare l
’orologio facendo compiere alla
corona circa 40 giri in senso orario.
2. e strarre la corona portandola in posizione 2, poi ruo-
tarla in senso orario per regolare il calendario sul
giorno che precede la data dell'entrata in funzione.
3. e strarre la corona portandola in posizione 3. r uo -
tare le lancette in modo che il calendario scatti una
volta a mezzanotte. Poi regolare l’ora e il minuto.
4. r isospingere
la corona in posizione 1, premerla leg-
germente mentre la si ruota delicatamente in senso
orario, quindi riavvitarla finché si sente una certa
resistenza. Non forzare!

ISURA DI UN UNICO TEMPO BREVE
1. Premere il pulsante A per avviare il cronografo. La lan-
cetta 3 permette di seguire la misurazione in secondi.
2. Fermare la misurazione premendo di nuovo il pul-
sante A. La misura si effettua in ore (totalizzatore
1), in minuti (totalizzatore 2), in secondi e in quarti
di secondo (lancetta 3).
3. Azzerare il cronografo premendo il pulsante B.

II. MISURA DI UN TEMPO BREVE CON INTERRUZIONE
1. Premere il pulsante A per mettere in funzione il cro-
nografo. La lancetta 3 permette di seguire la misura
in secondi.
2. Per interrompere la misura, premere di nuovo il
pulsante A. Per riavviare la misura del tempo, pre-
mere il pulsante A. Procedendo così è possibile
addizionare più tempi brevi.
3. L’azzeramento si effettua premendo il pulsante B
dopo aver blocca

La lunetta del Suo orologio possiede 12 indici orari.
essi fungono da punti di riferimento (ossia da «répe-
re») per segnare un’ora di partenza o un’ora limite che
si vuole ricordare. n ei modelli senza cronografo servo-
no inoltre da «crono-minuti», e permettono di misura-
re in minuti il tempo trascorso.
