When using your phone equipment, basic safety precautions should always be
followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including
the following:
• Do not use this product near water, for example, near a bath tub, wash
bowl, kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement or near a swimming
pool.
• Avoid using a phone (other than a cordless type) during an electrical
storm. There may be a remote risk of electric shock from lightning.
• Do not use the phone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of a leak.
Maintenance and Repair: There are no user serviceable parts inside the
phones. For repairs, return the phone to an authorized Mitel dealer.

Description
The Mitel 5320 IP phone is supported by:
• Mitel Communications Director (MCD) Release 4.0 SP1 and later software.
• SIP Release 8.0 and later software.
• 5000 Communications Platform, Release 3.2.
The 5320 IP phone is LAN-powered.
SIP-supported 5320 IP Phones
You can also configure 5320 IP Phones to SIP mode.For more information
about SIP mode,
refer to the
5320 SIP User and Administration Guide available at
www.mitel.com.
For user and Web Configuration Tool information, access the Web
Configuration Tool Online Help available in the tool and at www.mitel.com (see
Supporting Documentation).
To access the latest firmware loads and additional SIP documentation:
1. In your browser, go to www.mitel.com, click Login, and log in to Mitel
OnLine.
2. Move your cursor over Products, and select Desktop->SIP Desktop
Devices.
3. In “Related Links”, click Product Documentation to access the SIP
documentation.
4. For the SIP Software Download Page for firmware loads, move your
cursor over Services and Support, and select Technical Support .
5. In “Related Links”, click Software Downloads.
6. Click on IP Desktop Devices and locate SIP Software Downloads in the
list of available software.

Installing a 5320 IP Phone (See Figure )
It is easiest to connect the cables to your phone after you have attached the
mounting base unit to the phone.
Before installing your phone, ensure that you are familiar with the following
powering options:
• An IEEE 802.3af LAN-powered jack provides power to the phone via a
LAN cable. (The phone receives ethernet signals and power through the
same cable.) To install, see Steps
n and o.
• An Ethernet power adapter provides power to the phone via a LAN cable.
The Ethernet power adapter is connected to the LAN via a separate LAN
cable connected to a jack. (The phone receives ethernet signals and
power through the same cable.) To install, see Steps
n and o.
NOTE:
Use only qualified Mitel-supplied Ethernet adapters.
n Thread the LAN cable plug through the slot on the back of the installed base
unit and plug it into the LAN port on the back of the phone.
NOTE:
If you are wall-mounting your phone, do not thread the LAN cable
through the base unit slot—connect the cable directly from the LAN port
on the phone to the jack on the wall.
o Plug the other end of the LAN cable into one of the following:
• the phone port of an Ethernet power adapter. Then, connect the
Ethernet adapter to the LAN using a separate LAN cable, and plug the
power adapter into an AC power outlet.
or
• a LAN-powered jack.
p Plug the handset cord into the handset port and thread it through one of the
slots on either side of the base unit.
q (Optional) Plug the telephony headset cord into the headset port on the
back of the phone. Thread the headset cord through one of the slots on
either side of the base unit, as shown for the handset cord in
qabove.
r To register an installed phone to MiNET mode, enter a valid PIN, and then
press (HOLD) to register the phone.
DANGER
Danger indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not

Warning indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION
Caution indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not

The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle indicates that important
operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions are included in the
literature accompanying the product.

To register the phone in SIP mode, proceed to Configuring a 5320 IP Phone
to SIP Mode.
s After the date and time appear on the display, proceed with the next step.
t For MiNET deployments, you can connect a PC to the PC port on the back
of the phone. If desired, thread the PC cable through the slot on the back of
the installed base unit, as shown for the LAN cable in
n above.
Configuring a 5320 IP Phone to SIP Mode
NOTE:
If you are upgrading from a previous load, please ensure you are fol-
lowing the correct upgrade procedure as outlined in the latest product
Release Notes available from the SIP Software Download Page (see
“To access the latest firmware loads and additional SIP documenta-
tion:” on page 2).
To configure the phone to SIP mode using the default settings:
1. Press and hold * and 7 simultaneously while powering up the phone. The
display indicates “Mode Change to SIP”.
2. When the display indicates “Change Confirmed”, wait for the phone to
boot.
NOTE:
If prompted to ENTER USERID, enter the extension number for the
phone. If the Installer code is configured, you must enter the Installer
Code + extension number (e.g. 123 + 2001).
3. (Optional) Connect a network device to the PC port on the back of the
phone.
NOTE:
The SIP default configuration uses the default network settings in
DHCP mode.
NOTE:
To return the phone to MiNET mode using the default settings, press
and hold
*
and

simultaneously while powering up the phone. When
the phone boots, it is returned to MiNET mode.
SIP Network Configuration
If necessary, you can change the default SIP network settings. When changing
or configuring 5320 IP Phone settings, use the *, 0, and # keys to answer the
display prompts. For example, press * to select YES or # to select NO or 0 to
select Default.
To configure network settings:
1. Press both Up and Down Arrow keys simultaneously while powering up the
phone. NETWORK SETTINGS? appears.
2. Use the * and # keys to navigate through the NETWORK SETTINGS and/
or NETWORK PARAMETERS menus and configure settings.
3. When you are finished entering parameters, press ACCEPT. STORE
CHANGES? appears.
4. Press YES. SAVING TO NVRAM. Do Not Remove Power appears, fol-
lowed by NVRAM SAVE COMPLETE and REBOOT NOW?.
5. Press YES. When the date and time appear, the reboot is complete and
your settings are updated.
NOTE:
For xDSL, an Internet Service Provider user name and password are
required.
NOTE:

To Restore Factory Default Settings:
1. Press both Up and Down Arrow keys simultaneously while powering up the
phone. NETWORK SETTINGS? appears
2. Press NO until TOOLS & FEATURES appears and then press YES.
3. Press NO until RESTORE DEFAULTS? appears and then press YES.
4. Press CONFIRM. The phone resets with default settings.
Desktop Mounting a 5320 IP Phone (See Figure )
n Turn the phone so that the front faces away from you.
o Hold the base unit so that the lower hooks along the flat edge bend toward
the bottom edge of the phone.
p Hinge the hooks of the base unit into the notches on the back of the phone
and snap into place as follows:
a. For a high-angle mount, hinge the two lower hooks into the bottom set
of notches and snap the two upper hooks into the middle set of
notches.
b. For a low-angle mount, hinge the two lower hooks into the middle sets
of notches and snap the two upper hooks into the top set of notches.
Wall Mounting on a Wall Plate (NA only) (See Figure )
n Turn the base unit so that the hooks on the flat edge of the base unit bend
toward the top edge of the phone. Hinge the two upper hooks into the top set
of notches and snap the two lower hooks into the middle set of notches on
the back of the phone.
o Secure the base unit using the two screws provided (found in a separate
package with the phone).
p Plug the phone cord into the wall jack.
q Place the base unit on the wall plate post, and then push down until the unit
is firmly seated.
r Using your index finger, lift the clip (from the top) located below the hook
switch, turn the clip 180 degrees, and then let the clip snap into place to form
a hook. (The hook keeps the handset in the cradle when the phone is wall
mounted.)
Wall Mounting on a Wall
n Select a location away from electrical cables, pipes or other items that could
cause a hazard when inserting screws in the wall.
CAUTION:Ensure the wall is capable of supporting the weight of the phone. For addition-
al security, it is recommended that you mount the phone on a plywood back-
board. Mitel is not responsible for phones damaged as a result of improper
wall mounting.
o Insert two mounting screws 3 1/4 inches (8.25 cm) apart. Allow about 3/16
of an inch (0.5 cm) between the wall and screw heads for mounting the
phone. Use #10 screws 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 4 cm) in length for mounting
screws and anchoring devices suitable for the wall.
p Follow the procedure for mounting the phone on the wall plate to complete
the installation.
