1 Safety Information

Please read this operating instruction manual thoroughly.

Intended use

The phone is suitable for telephoning within a public telephone

network system.

Only use the picture frame as described in this manual.

Any other use is considered unintended use. Unauthorised modifi-

cation or reconstruction is not permitted. Under no circumstances

open the devices or complete any repair work yourself.

Installation location

Prevent excessive exposure to smoke, dust, vibration, chemicals,

moisture, heat and direct sunlight.

Do not use the handset in potentially explosive areas.

Power adapter plugs

Attention: Only use the power adapter plugs supplied

because other power adapter plugs could damage the

devices. Ensure access to the power adapter plugs is

not obstructed by furniture or such.

Rechargeable batteries

Attention: Never throw batteries into a fire. Only use

batteries of the same type. Pay attention to correct pola-

rity. Incorrect polarity of the batteries represents a risk of

explosion during charging.

Power failure

The telephone cannot be used to make calls in the event of a

power failure. Always keep a cord connected telephone which op-

erates without an external power supply available in case of

emergency situations.

Safety Information

Medical equipment

Attention: Never use the telephone in the vicinity of me-

dical equipment. Effects on such equipment cannot be

fully ruled out.

DECT

telephones can cause an unpleasant humming sound in

hearing aids.

Disposal

In order to dispose of your device, take it to a collection

point provided by your local public waste authorities (e.g.

recycling centre). The adjacent symbol indicates that the

device must not be disposed of in normal domestic

waste! According to laws on the disposal of electronic

and electrical devices, owners are obliged to dispose of

old electronic and electrical devices in a separate

waste container.

Batteries must be disposed of at

the point of sale or at the appropri-

ate collection points provided by

the public waste authorities.

Packaging materials must be disposed of according to local re-

gulations.

DECT: Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication = Stan-

dard for cordless telephones.

Connecting the base station

Attention: Position the base station at least 1 m away

from other electronic devices, otherwise there is a risk of

mutual disturbance.

Connect the base station as illustrated in the diagram. For rea-

sons of safety, only use the power adapter plug and telephone

connection line supplied.

Visit www.switel.com to find out whether the telephone/tele-

phone set is already available.

led with No. VD060025J and output data 6 V, 250 mA.

Charging the batteries

Before the handset is used for the first time, insert it in the

base station/charging station for at least 16 hours.

When the handset is properly inserted in the base station / charg-

ing station, you will hear an acoustic signal. The handset warms

up during the charging process. This is normal and does not

represent a risk. Do not charge the handset with charging units

from other manufacturers. The current battery charge status is

indicated in the display:

Full Half empty Low Empty

Setting the display language

Select the language required (also refer to Menu Structure"):

 > SETUP MT > SPRACHE >...

( > SETUP HS > LANGUAGE >...)

Setting the time and date on the handset

The date and time are set using the menu ( Chapter 5).

Automatic answering

When the AUTO TALK function is activated, a call is automatically

taken on removing the handset from the base station. The Auto

Talk function is activated and deactivated using the menu

( Chapter 5).

Private branch exchanges

The information in Chapter 11 explains how to install your tele-

phone in a private branch exchange.

Low−radiation operation (ECO mode)

In talk mode, radiation is reduced depending on the

distance between the handset and base station.

This chapter provides basic information on using the operating in-

struction manual and the telephone.

Icon Description

On: Indicates the battery charge status.

Flashing: The batteries must be charged.

Run−through segments: The batteries are

being charged.

 Internally assigned call number of the

handset.

  Display of date and time.

On: An external call is currently being made.

Flashing: An external call has been received.

INT On: An internal call is currently being made.

Flashing: An internal call has been received.

On: The call log is open.

There are more digits to the left or right of the

phone number displayed. Press the  or

 button to show them.

The ringing tone has been switched off.

The alarm function is enabled.

The key lock is activated.

You have accessed the menu.

The phone book is open.

is interrupted. Move nearer to the base sta-

tion.

Standby mode

All descriptions in this operating manual assume that the handset

is in Standby mode, which is the case when you are not talking on

the phone and if a menu is not open. Press the  or 

button to enable Standby mode.

All the functions can be accessed via the various menus. Refer to

the menu structure to find how to access the respective functions.

The default PIN code is 0000".

There are 4 memory locations available for registering base

stations. Memory locations which flash have already been as-

signed. If a memory location is selected which is already as-

signed, the old registration in this memory location is over-

written.

Phone Book

You can use the phone book to store up to 25 phone numbers to-

gether with the associated names.

 Always enter the area access code with the phone numbers

so that incoming local calls can also be assigned to a phone

book entry.

 When the memory capacity is used up, the message

MEMORY FULL

appears when an attempt is made to

store another number. To create space, an existing entry must

first be deleted.

 The phone book entries are arranged alphabetically. To

access the required phone book entry directly, press the first

letters of the corresponding name.

Entering names

Letters are also imprinted on the digit keys. Letters, digits and

special characters are entered by pressing the relevant key the

respective number of times.

To enter the same letter twice, press the button to enter

the letter. Wait until the cursor skips one position for-

wards. Enter the letter again.

7 Call Log

A total of 20 calls are stored in the call log.

The caller number display (CLIP

) is a supplementary

service offered by your telephone network provider. The

caller’s number appears in the display if the service is of-

fered by your telephone network provider. Contact your

network provider for further information.

Messages in the display:

UNAVAILABLE The phone number is received only par-

tially or with errors.

Information related to the phone number

is not available. This could signify an in-

ternational call.

WITHHELD The caller has suppressed the trans-

mission of their phone number.

Displaying numbers in the call log

Press the  button, several times if necessary, to switch be-

tween the Name", Number" and Received time" displays.

CLIP: Calling Line Identification Presentation = Displays the

caller’s phone number.

Storing a phone number in the call log in the phone book

A phone number in the call log can be stored in the phone book

directly.

It is also possible to press the Call button  first to

obtain the dialling tone for an outside line. The digits

then entered are dialled immediately. It is not possible to

correct wrong digits individually using this dialling proce-

dure.

list.

Phone numbers must have been stored in the phone book for this

function (  Chapter 6).

Chain dialling

Chain dialling is used to link and transmit numbers to make use of

telephone services such as telephone banking, call−by−call or call-

ing card procedures.

Open the phone book, call log or redialling list and select the

numbers required in succession or link them with manually en-

tered numbers. Any number of numbers can be transmitted from

the lists when a connection has already been established and

they can also be combined with manually entered numbers. An

example of transmitting the predialling code of a call−by−call

number is described below.
