Until secretory activation (milk coming in) or a maximum of 5 days:
Use the INITIATE program directly after birth until the mother has reached secretory activation:
For fully pump-dependent mothers:
This can be indicated by pumping at least 20 ml in total in each of her last three pumping sessions. If
not all pumping volumes have been recorded, this can be indicated by other physiological markers of
secretory activation, such as breast fullness.
When the mother is breastfeeding and pumping:
This can be indicated by other physiological markers of secretory activation, such as breast fullness
OR
Throughout the first five days. If milk production has not started after five days, change to the MAINTAIN
program.
After secretory activation (milk coming in):
Use the MAINTAIN program after secretory activation:
Once the mother has pumped at least 20 ml in total in each of her last three pumping sessions, OR
Beginning on day six, whichever of the two options comes first.
6.3 Operation: INITIATE program
CAUTION
