Before you start
This section contains important information you should read prior to unpacking and setting up the 40U-P cabinet.
CAUTION: Some products are designed for installation by trained service personnel only. Attempts by unqualified personnel to
set up and start certain products may result in system damage and may void product warranties. Contact your representative
for detailed warranty, installation, and initialization policies.
Please dispose of shipping material responsibly, and recycle wherever and whenever possible. Cabinet packaging that includes a collapsible
downloading ramp can be re-packaged and returned, as described in Repackaging shipping material (2-piece ramp kits only).

Hardware acclimation
Systems and components must acclimate to the operating environment before power is applied to them. Once unpackaged, the system
must reside in the operating environment for up to 16 hours to thermally stabilize and prevent condensation.
If the last 24 hours of the TRANSIT/STORAGE environment
was:

environment is:

component acclimate in the
new environment this many
hours:

IMPORTANT:
If there are signs of condensation after the recommended acclimation time has passed, allow an additional eight (8) hours to stabilize.
System components must not experience changes in temperature and humidity that are likely to cause condensation to form on or in
that system or component. Do not exceed the shipping and storage temperature gradient of 45°F/hr (25°C/hr).
To facilitate environmental stabilization, open both front and rear cabinet doors.
Steps to unpack and setup cabinet
The steps to unpack, setup and repackage the shipping material are listed in the following table:

Remove the ramp and shipping material from the
cabinet
Steps
1. Remove any boxes and other material from the cabinet sides.
3

Remove the cabinet shipping brackets
Steps
1. At the rear of the cabinet, remove the rear shipping bracket, by removing the bolts that go through the bracket to the cabinet and into
the pallet.
2. At the front of the cabinet, remove the bottom cabinet bezel, if necessary. Pull the bezel straight out to remove it.
3. Remove the bolts that attach the cabinet to the front shipping bracket. Your can leave the front bracket attached to the shipping
pallet.
NOTE:
Save the bolts. You may need them later to install optional stabilizer brackets.
5
Attach the unloading ramp
Steps
1. Insert the ramp brackets into the pallet notches in the rear of the pallet.
2. If your shipment includes a two-piece ramp, attach part A to the pallet and part B to part A.

Roll the cabinet down the ramp
About this task
NOTE:
Make certain the leveling feet are secured in the UP position before moving the cabinet. Secured feet allow the cabinet
to roll off the ramp and into position. If you need to adjust the leveling feet, use the 6mm hex key (top access) or an adjustable
wrench (bottom access) to turn the feet counter-clockwise. This raises them to the UP position.

WARNING:
The cabinet is heavy. Make certain you have sufficient help and secure footing before rolling the cabinet onto the ramp.
ATTENTION!

WARNING: Balance the cabinet from the sides; do not grasp the plastic bezels or other components on the front of the cabinet.
DO NOT STAND IN FRONT OF THE CABINET

Power requirements
Depending on the cabinet configuration and input ac power source, single or three-phase, the cabinet requires two to 12 independent
power sources. To determine your site requirements, use the published technical specifications and device rating labels. This will help
provide the current draw of the devices in each rack. The total current draw for each rack can then be calculated. For Dell EMC products,
visit the "Dell EMC Power Calculator" on the web at http://powercalculator.dell.com.

Attach (optional) brackets
We strongly recommend that you secure your cabinet to the floor with stabilizing brackets. Make sure the cabinet is in its final location
before attaching the brackets, then use the supplied bolts and mounting holes to attach them to the cabinet and floor

Install the lower trim strip
This procedure describes how to install the lower trim strip.
About this task
NOTE: If the cabinet is shipped with a front door, there is no need to install the lower front bezel/trim strip.
Steps
1. Wipe down the lower cabinet with alcohol wipes.
2. On the underside of the lower trim strip, remove the double-sided tape from the velcro fasteners.
Figure 4. Placement of velcro fasteners on lower trim strip
3. Align the lower trim strip with the lower cabinet and firmly press the bezel onto the cabinet until it adheres to the cabinet.

Ground the cabinet
Equipment correctly installed within the cabinet is grounded through the AC power cables and connectors. In general, supplemental
grounding is not required.
About this task
If your site requires external grounding (for example, to a common grounding network beneath the site floor), you can use the grounding
lugs provided on each of the cabinet’s lower power distribution panels (PDP).

Repackaging shipping material (2-piece ramp kits
only)
About this task
Follow these steps to repackage the shipping material:
Steps
1. Lay each of the outer sleeves flat, then fold it lengthwise before collapsing the three sections, as shown:
3
CL4690
1
2
2. Stack the shipping brackets on the pallet, as shown:
CL4697
3
21
3. Place ramp section B upside-down on the pallet, then stack section A, right-side up.
4. Stack the two folded outer sleeves above the ramp sections.
5. Apply the two collar sections to either side of the pallet; hold them in place with the package hood.
14
6. Band the unit with shipping straps as shown:
CL4751
7. Use the following information to determine how to return the repackaged shipping material:
If the carrier unpacked the cabinet, the carrier handles the return shipment to the packaging supplier.
If the cabinet was unpacked after delivery, refer to the contact number attached to the pamphlet for repacking. This contact is the
carrier network for the initial shipment and they will follow the same process as for the initial shipments.
