2. PRE-INSTALLATION & SAFETY NOTES
UNPACKING.
On receipt inspect the packaging and contents for signs of damage. If damage has occurred advise
the carrier and/or the suppliers immediately. Inspect the contents to confirm that all items are
present and undamaged. If any items are missing or damaged contact the supplier. It is advised
that the original carton is retained as this forms the safest transport container in the event that a
unit has to be returned for any reason.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
Instructions: This Handbook and all relevant safety instructions should be read before attempting
to install, connect or operate the unit. These instructions should also be retained and kept in a safe
place for future reference.
Moisture: Do not expose the internal electronics of this unit to moisture i.e. take care during normal
use not to spill the contents of drinking vessels over the unit. Although the design of the keyboard
offers some protection against liquid spillage it is advised that care is taken not to do so.
Power Source: Ensure that the power supply used complies with the power requirement stated on
the manufacturers label.
Power Connector: A standard BS 1363 plug mounted 9 Volt d.c. power supply unit is connected to
the keyboard via lead and 2.1 mm power connector. Do not attempt to alter this connector in any
way. Mains cords should be routed in such a way that they are not trapped, pinched or otherwise
damaged by sharp edges.
Servicing: This unit will not require general servicing. Any repair work should only be undertaken
by qualified service personnel. On the completion of servicing, safety checks should be performed
to ensure that the unit is in proper operating condition.
Safety Standards: All the relevant safety precautions as laid down by British Standards and Health
and Safety at Work Act should be observed.
This symbol is used to warn users that mains voltage is present with the consequent
electric shock risk.
This symbol is used to alert users to important operating and maintenance
instructions.

3. INTRODUCTION
General
The Dennard dtx1000 is a user friendly two part transmitter design, comprising a keyboard and
base unit, which is either wall or rack mountable. The two parts are connected by a video cable and
bi-directional RS232 link. The system is available in four main variants all of which allow the use of
two fully independent keyboards :
1. 8 Camera inputs, 2 monitor outputs
2. 16 Camera inputs, 2 monitor outputs
3. 8 Camera inputs, 2 monitor outputs and 16 alarm inputs
4. 16 Camera inputs, 2 monitor outputs and 16 alarm inputs

Keyboard Layout
Connections
Having mounted the Base Unit on the wall or in a rack, continue as follows:
1. Connect the keyboard to the 9 pin D socket on the Base Unit marked keyboard 1
2. Connect a coax cable from output M.1 on the Base Unit to the “video in” BNC on the keyboard
and connect the “video out” BNC to monitor 1. Terminate the cable at the monitor.
3. If the keyboard is remotely sited from the Base Unit, connect the 9V plug PSU to the keyboard
via the Ø 2.1 power connector.
4. Connect either a second spot monitor (no keyboard-no text) or the second keyboard to output 2.
Note that even if both keyboards are local to the mains, the second keyboard must be powered
from the 9V plug PSU.
5. Connect the BNC from the camera/receivers to the upper BNC sockets in each row of the Base
Unit marked ”Camera Inputs”
6. Connect any other equipment requiring the camera video signals to the lower BNC sockets, on
the Base Unit, marked “video out”
7. If the user relay terminals are being used, connect these to the Low Voltage equipment of your
choice. Pin 6 normally closed Pin 7 common Pin 8 normally open
8. Apply power via the IEC connector and switch on. The power LED should flash and the monitors
should show Camera 1. Inputs

3. KEYBOARD FUNCTIONS
Camera Selection
The CAMERA SELECT buttons are located on the to left hand side of the keyboard. Pressing the
appropriate button will display the selected camera on the monitor with the camera ident. appearing
in the bottom left hand corner. The displayed camera can be controlled with the following keyboard
functions.
Monitor Selection
The monitor button has a red LED which illuminates when the keyboard is controlling the second
monitor output. Pressing the monitor button toggles between the main monitor and the second
monitor.
Sequence Selection
Pressing the seq button will start the camera sequence on the main monitor. The on-screen display
will change from CAM?? To SEQ?? to indicate that the sequence is running. To stop the sequence,
select a camera on the main monitor by pressing a CAMERA SELECT button.
Programming the Sequence Order
Holding down the seq button causes the camera sequence to run through the list of inputs at the
rate of one per second, allowing the operator to quickly determine which inputs are /are not in the
sequence list. While the seq button is held down, any camera button pressed will toggle the
inclusion/exclusion of the relevant input. When delivered, all of the camera inputs are included in
the camera sequence.
Altering the Sequence Delay
This is achieved by pressing the set button to gain access to the menu. Sequence delay times may
be altered using Option 9. The on-screen SEQ DELAY appears inviting the operator to enter a
number from 1 to 16 for the following sequence delay times:
1 5 seconds 6 30 seconds 11 55 seconds
2 10 seconds 7 35 seconds 12 60 seconds
3 15 seconds 8 40 seconds 13 65 seconds
4 20 seconds 9 45 seconds 14 70 seconds
5 25 seconds 10 50 seconds 15 75 seconds

After entering the selected delay value , the screen clears.
Function button
The function button activates a relay in the Base Unit. Pressing the button causes changeover
contacts to close, releasing the button opens one set and closes the other set. This button can be
used by the installer to activate a panic record facility on a VCR or to activate a video printer etc.
The contacts are low voltage, low current only.

Pan and Tilt Control Buttons (a.c.Heads) Proportional Joystick
(a.c. or d.c. Heads)
Press the triangular buttons to give pan & tilt movement in the direction indicated by the key or
push the joystick in a similar direction (Please note: if the pan right button is operated the pan & tilt
will move to the right but the picture on the monitor will be moving to the left.)
Lens Control Button
There are six lens control buttons on the Dennard dtx1000 keyboard. These are as shown above
namely: IRIS open, IRIS close, FOCUS far, FOCUS near, ZOOM out and ZOOM in.
Press and hold the relevant button until the desired picture is obtained.
Note: if the button is held down for longer than one second, then the high speed lens action is
triggered. inching is achieved by rapid presses of the button.

Auxiliary Control Buttons
There are four auxiliary function buttons on the Dennard dtx1000 keyboard as shown below.
Their functions are as follows:
wash - Press and hold for the desired wash period
wipe - Press on/press off
autopan - Press, LED lights and the autopanning function begins. Press Pan
Left or Pan Right to stop
aux - Press on/press off
Self Test
To activate the self test feature for any particular camera receiver, Select the appropriate camera
using the CAMERA SELECT buttons., then press the set button to display the Menu. To call menu
option 2 (Self Test) operate the CAMERA SELECT 2 button, the screen text will clear and Self
Test will be activated. See the Dennard drx series Telemetry Receiver Handbook for more detail.
Iris Level Program
To preset the iris aperture, press IRIS open or IRIS close until the desired level is reached, then
press the set button to display the menu. To call menu option 3 (Iris Set) operate the CAMERA
SELECT 3 button, the screen text will clear and the iris level will be set.
Note: The programming operation should be completed in under 15 seconds as there is an in built
safety feature which returns the iris to the default setting if an instruction is not received within this
period.

The remainder of this handbook refers to features found only on the Dennard drx100/ 400 /400dc
receivers.
Presets (select, programme and erase)
To select an existing preset, press the preset button. The monitor will display PRESET. While
holding down the preset button select the desired preset number.
To programme a preset, first select the desired camera by using the CAMERA SELECT buttons.
Position the camera using the Up Down Left Right arrows, then set the ZOOM and FOCUS. When
you are satisfied with the position and quality of the picture, press the set button to display the
Menu.To call menu option 1 (preset) operate the CAMERA SELECT 1 button. When the menu
changes to PROGRAM PRESET enter the number of the preset you have just programmed using
the CAMERA SELECT buttons.
To erase a preset, press the set button to gain access to the menu. Select option 4 and when the
display changes to ERASE PRESET, select the number of the preset to be erased

Patrol Settings
There are two patrol programmes that can be activated by the Dennard dtx1000. This is achieved
by pressing the Patrol button and either CAMERA SELECT button 1 or 2. All other keys are
ignored. The patrol function is to enable a string of presets to be selected in turn, switching
between them after a fixed period of time (nominally 30 seconds)
Note: Once the factory setting of 30 seconds has been altered to some other value, that particular
setting cannot be recovered.
Patrols can be stopped at any time by pressing any of the four arrows on the pan & tilt control, after
selecting the receiver on which the patrol is running.
To Programme a Patrol
There is no separate patrol programming function with the Dennard dtx1000 keyboard. Once a
preset has been programmed it is automatically included in patrols 1 & 2.
To Remove a Preset from a Patrol
Select the camera/receiver on which the patrol is to run by pressing appropriate CAMERA SELECT
button. Press the set button to access the menu and then press CAMERA SELECT 5 button (to
remove a preset from patrol. 1) or 6 (to remove a preset from patrol. 2) followed by the preset
number to be removed by pressing the appropriate CAMERA SELECT button.
To Program a Time Period for a Patrol
First determine the time delay required from the following table of CAMERA SELECT button
numbers:

Press the set button to access the menu and then press CAMERA SELECT 7 button (to set a delay
time in Patrol 1.) followed by the appropriate CAMERA SELECT button to give the required delay
time.

Press the set button to access the menu and then press CAMERA SELECT 8 button (to set a delay
time in Patrol 2.) followed by the appropriate CAMERA SELECT button to give the required delay
time.
Spare Outputs
There are four spare outputs, with momentary action, for use as relay drivers. To activate these
outputs press and hold shift whilst pressing one of the auxiliary buttons. An on screen display
confirms which output has been activated. Advanced receiver functions are controlled using the
spare outputs.See the relevant receiver handbook.
Maximum number of cameras
This option sets the number of cameras on the system.
Operate the set button to display the menu.
Press the CAMERA SELECT 15 button to call the menu option 15 (maximum number of cameras)
and the screen will display: MAX CAM SELECT?
Operate the CAMERA SELECT button which corresponds to the number of cameras on the system.
The system is now programmed and will return to normal operation.

4. TWISTED PAIR OUTPUT
The Twisted Pair output sends telemetry signals from the transmitter to the receiver. A video cable
connection is still required. The twisted pair option is normally used to connect a non cable
transmission system i.e. fibre, microwave etc.
The twisted pair option provides a 20mA compatible output, 1200 baud 8 data bits 1 stop bit even
parity.

Mixed Coax and Twisted Pair Systems
The Dennard dtx1000 Series of Transmitters copes automatically with a mixture of coax and twisted
pair connected receivers, directing the telemetry signal to the relevant interface. The only
requirement is that the installer should connect the twisted pair cable to the telemetry output
corresponding to the video output.
To Suppress Coax Signal
When it is required to remove the coax telemetry signal from a static camera, i.e. no telemetry
required at all, install a 470© resistor across the relevant twisted pair output contacts. Often fibre
optic equipment dislikes having a telemetry signal on its output, as it can upset the AGC.

5. ALARM INPUT OPTIONS

Only qualified persons should install this apparatus. It contains no user serviceable parts.

Alarm is active on opening of contacts. Connect each alarm to a volts free contact

Alarm Output
A set of No Volt changeover contacts are provided as an output to the alarm package, closure
takes place on detection and they stay closed for a programmed length of time. the contacts are
accessed via alarm contacts 3, 4, 5 on the smaller green connector.
These contacts are suitable for low voltage control functions only.

Alarm Contacts
The alarm package may be enabled / disabled via a keyswitch fitted
across alarm contacts PIN 1 and PIN 2. When the switch is closed
the alarm package is disabled, open the switch and the alarm
package is active. This may be used to control the alarm package.
i.e. enabled at night when the building is empty.
Note:- Cutting the switch cable will activate the alarms
Action on alarm
Each alarm can be programmed to switch monitor 1 to display a specific camera and go to a preset
position for that camera. An alarm message is displayed on the monitor and the alarm output relay
closes for a programmed length of time. If the sequence is running, then the alarm time is added to
the sequence time and the sequence continues to run after the alarm times out. If the sequence is
not running the alarm message and selected camera remain on monitor 1 until a manual camera
selection is made.
The camera selected and the preset command issued is programmable via the keyboard, press the
set button and follow the on screen commands.
The length of time the contacts stay closed is also programmable. Press the set button and follow
the on screen commands. To disable the set button remove the shorting link from the small
rectangular slot below the monitor 2 output. To take advantage of the go to preset feature,
Dennard drx400/drx400dc receivers or Dennard drx100 dome
preset pan/tilt /zoom heads must be fitted.
Alarms and the Dennard drx400dc & Dennard drx100 high and variable speed d.c. receivers
These receivers have local alarm inputs and a single normally closed relay output that
opens momentarily when a local alarm is activated. This output can be wired to an alarm
input on the Dennard dtx1000.
A local alarm on the receiver will cause the relevant preset position to be automatically selected
without the intervention of a telemetry transmitter. See the receiver handbook. If the transmitter also
generates a go to preset command, then the receiver's go to preset will be overruled. To overcome
this alarm, preset 16 now becomes a special that disables a go to preset command.
If the local alarm feature of any d.c. or Dennard drx100 receiver is used, then set the alarm preset
position to 16. The standard a.c. Dennard drx400 receiver can be programmed to go to preset
positions 1 - 15 during an alarm.
If 16 preset positions are required then software is available.

APPENDIX “A”
Additional Information
It is strongly recommended that this equipment is pre-built in the installers workshop, to
ensure problem free installation at the customers premises
(1) The software version number is displayed for approximately 2 seconds on first power
up e.g.- ” VF ”
(2) The keyboard should not be connected or disconnected from a “live” working unit, as
this may cause damage to the RS232 components.
(3) Alarm programming menu items appear even if no alarm option is present.
These options are inoperative unless an alarm version has been purchased and is
recognisable by the three green connectors along the bottom edge of the Base Unit.
(4) Priority control between two keyboard system
Keyboard 1. Has priority over keyboard 2. If keyboard 1. Is viewing but not operating any
camera position, then keyboard 2. May move that camera.
After movement commands on keyboard 1. There is an approximate 15 second lock out
period before control is given to keyboard 2.
(5) The Dennard dtx1000/16 can be used in multiples, allowing 32, 48 and 64 camera position
installations. When two or more Dennard dtx1000/16 base units are used an EX-4 is
required to link the Dennard dtx1000/16 Base Units. A keyboard and monitor can be
connected to each Base Unit with a master keyboard and monitor connected via coax to
the EX-4 or the keyboard and monitor can be connected only to the EX-4 unit. there are
several combinations available please contact DEDICATED MICROS for further details.
