The Manual

The instructions in this Manual have been

prepared principally in order to provide

you with a simple clearly usable guide;

minor maintenance operations are also

shown, together with the regular check-

ups which your vehicle should have at

Concessionaires or Authorised DERBI

Service Centres. In addition, the manual

contains instructions to enable you to

carry out a few simple repairs. Operations

which are not explicitly described in the

present document require special equip-

ment and/or specialist technical knowled-

ge to carry out, and we therefore recom-

mend that you take them to DERBI Con-

cessionaires or distributors.

die Praxis umzusetzende Hinweise

gegeben werden. So finden Sie zum

Beispiel Angaben über kleinere

Wartungsarbeiten und regelmäßige

Revisionen, die von den

Vertragshändlern oder –werkstätten Derbi

vorzunehmen sind. Außerdem finden Sie

in dem Handbuch einige Hinweise, wie

Sie kleinere Reparaturen selber

durchführen können. Die in dieser

Anleitung nicht erwähnten Arbeiten

erfordern Spezialausrüstung und/oder

Fachkenntnisse. Wir empfehlen Ihnen

deshalb, sich in diesen Fällen mit

Vertragshändlern oder –werkstätten von

Derbi in Verbindung zu setzen.

Guida sicura

- Realizzate sempre le verifiche previe.

La realizzazione di accurate verifiche

può essere d’aiuto nella prevenzione di

infortuni.

- Questa motocicletta è concepita per

portare il conducente e un passeggero.

- La maggioranza degli incidenti stradali

tra macchine e motociclette sono dovuti

al fatto che il conducente della macchi-

na non ha avvertito e riconosciuto la

motocicletta. Una misura assai efficace

di ridurre le possibilità di questo tipo di

incidenti è rendersi molto visibile.

Quindi:

-- Indossate un giubbino di colore bri-

llante.

-- Siate particolarmente prudenti quan-

do vi avviciniate e attraversiate gli

incroci, giacché sono appunto gli

incroci i luoghi in cui ci sono più spes-

so gli incidenti con le motociclette.

-- Circolate dove gli altri conducenti vi

possano vedere. Evitate di rimanere

negli angoli senza visione di altri con-

ducenti.

Safe driving

- Always carry out the preliminary

checks. Making careful checks may

help to prevent an accident.

- This motorcycle has been designed to

carry the rider and one pillion passen-

ger.

- The greater number of traffic accidents

between cars and motorcycles are due

to the fact that the driver of the car did

not see or recognise the motorcycle.

Many accidents are caused because

the driver of the car did not see the

motorcycle. One very effective measure

to reduce the possibility of this type of

accident is to make yourself very visi-

ble.

Therefore:

-- Wear a brightly-coloured jacket.

-- Be especially prudent on approaching

and when crossing cross-roads, since

cross-roads are the places where

motorcycle accidents occur with grea-

test frequency.

-- Ride where the other drivers can see

you. Avoid staying in the blind-spots

of other drivers.

-Führen Sie vor der Fahrt immer

- In molti degli incidenti sono coinvolti i

conducenti non provati. Infatti molti dei

conducenti implicati in incidenti non

hanno nemmeno la patente di guida

vigente.

-- Non guidate se non siete qualificato e

non prestate la motocicletta a perso-

ne non qualificate.

-- Conoscete le vostre capacità e i vos-

tri limiti. Il fatto di rimanere entro i

vostri limiti vi aiuterà ad evitare un

incidente.

-- Vi consigliamo di esercitarvi in un

luogo in cui non ci sia traffico finché

non abbiate preso una completa

dimestichezza con la motocicletta e

tutti i relativi comandi.

- Molti degli incidenti sono dovuti a un

errore del conducente della motociclet-

ta. Un errore tipico è quello di aprirsi

troppo in una curva a causa

dell’ECCESSO DI VELOCITÀ o anche

la scarsa virata (angolo d’inclinazione

minore di quello idoneo alla velocità).

-- Rispettate sempre il limite di velocità

e non circolate più veloci di quanto è

consono con lo stato della strada e

con il traffico.

- Drivers with low levels of experience

- Many accidents are caused by an error

on the part of the rider of the motorcy-

cle. One typical error consists of going

too wide on a curve because of

EXCESS SPEED, or because of

understeer (insufficient leaning for the

speed).

-- Always observe speed limits and

never ride at a higher speed than is

appropriate for the state of the road

surface and the traffic.

-- Non caricate mai un passeggero che

non possa mantenere saldamente i

-- Non guidate mai sotto gli effetti

dell’alcool o di altre droghe.

Equipaggiamento protettore

La maggioranza delle morti in incidenti

di motocicletta sono dovute a lesioni nella

testa. L’uso d’un emetto è basico nella

prevenzione o riduzione delle lesioni

nella testa.

accidents are caused by head injury. The

use of a crash helmet is essential in the

- If heavy items move, they can cause a

sudden loss of stability. Check that the

accessories and the load are properly

secured to the motorcycle before

moving off. Check the fastenings of

your accessories frequently, and the

restraints on any load you carry.

- Never secure long or heavy objects to

the handlebars, the front forks, or the

front mudguard. This kind of object, like

sleeping bags, canvas bags, or tents,

can create instability in handling the

machine, or loss of response to stee-

ring.

Accessories:

Original DERBI accessories have

been designed specifically for this machi-

ne. DERBI cannot analyse all the acces-

sories made by other brands which are

available on the market; therefore proper

selection, installation, and use of acces-

sories of other brands remains the res-

ponsibility of the user. Be very careful

when selecting and installing any acces-

sory. When installing accessories, follow

the recommendations below, and the gui-

delines we give you in the section on

Loads.

or while near an open flame.

dello scappamento sono tossici e pos-

sono provocare la perdita dei sensi e la

morte in maniera assai veloce. Utilizza-

te sempre la motocicletta in un luogo

debitamente ventilato.

clean the spill off immediately with a

can damage painted surfaces and

- Only use unleaded petrol. Use of lea-

ded petrol will cause serious damage to

the internal parts of the engine like the

valves, the piston rings, and the

exhaust system.

- Never start the engine or leave it run-

ning in a closed space. Exhaust gases

are toxic and can cause loss of cons-

ciousness and death very rapidly.

Always use the machine in a properly

ventilated place.

- The exhaust system will be hot after the

machine is operated. Check that the

exhaust system has cooled down befo-

re carrying out any maintenance opera-

tions.

und können zur Ohnmacht führen und

sehr schnell lebensgefährlich werden.

vertical. If the motorcycle is tilted, petrol

could leak from the carburettor or from

the fuel tank.

- If petrol is swallowed, if a sizable volu-

me of petrol vapour is inhaled, or if it

comes into contact with the eyes, get

medical attention immediately. If petrol

is spilled onto the skin or clothes, wash

the affected areas immediately with

medico. Se rovesciate benzina sulla

te la zona interessata con acqua e

sapone e cambiatevi gli indumenti.

Verifiche prima dell’uso

Lo stato di un veicolo è responsabilità

del suo proprietario. I componenti vitali

possono incominciare a deteriorarsi velo-

cemente anche se il veicolo non viene

utilizzato (per esempio, come risultato

della sua esposizione alle intemperie).

Qualsiasi guasto, fuga o diminuzione

della pressione dei pneumatici può arre-

care gravi conseguenze. È quindi assai

importante, oltre a una completa ispezio-

ne visiva, la verifica dei seguenti punti
