Important Safety Instructions
WARNING:  Failure to follow these safety instructions could
result in re, electric shock, or other injury or damage to
Apple TV or other property.

 Do not use Apple TV near water.
 Clean only with a dry cloth.
 Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat
registers, stoves, or other devices (including ampliers)
that produce heat.
 Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched,
particularly at plugs and at the point where they exit
from Apple TV.
 Only use attachments/accessories specied by the
manufacturer.
 Unplug Apple TV during lightning storms or when unused
for long periods of time.
 Do not place naked ame sources, such as lighted candles,
on or near Apple TV.
WARNING:  To reduce the risk of re or electric shock, do
not expose Apple TV to rain, liquid, moisture, excessive
heat, or naked ame.
 Refer all servicing to qualied service personnel. Servicing
is required when Apple TV has been damaged in any way,
such as when the power-supply cord or plug is damaged,
liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into Apple
TV, or Apple TV has been exposed to rain or moisture,
does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
 Apple TV has no on/o switch. To disconnect Apple TV
from power, you must disconnect the power cord. Make
sure the power cord is always easily accessible.
 When connecting or disconnecting Apple TV, always hold
the plug by its sides. Keep ngers away from the metal
part of the plug.
 Do not use Apple TV outdoors. Apple TV is an indoor
product.
 Do not move Apple TV if another device such as a TV,
computer, or other electronic device is connected to it.
 Do not expose Apple TV to dripping or splashing,
and do not place any object lled with liquid, such as a
vase, on Apple TV.
 Information such as model number, electrical rating, and
other classications is located on the bottom of Apple TV.
Do Not Make Repairs Yourself
WARNING:  Do not attempt to open Apple TV or
disassemble it. You run the risk of electric shock and
voiding the limited warranty. No user-serviceable parts
are inside.
About Handling
Your Apple TV may be damaged by improper storage or
handling. Be careful not to drop Apple TV when transporting
the device.
About Operating and Storage Temperatures
When you’re using Apple TV, it’s normal for the case to get
warm. The Apple TV case functions as a cooling surface that
transfers heat from inside the unit to the cooler air outside.
Regulatory Compliance Information
FCC Compliance Statement
This device complies with part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation
is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device
may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must
accept any interference received, including interference
that may cause undesired operation. See instructions if

This computer equipment generates, uses, and can
radiate radio-frequency energy. If it is not installed and
used properly—that is, in strict accordance with Apple’s

If your computer system does cause interference to radio or
television reception, try to correct the interference by using
one or more of the following measures:
 Turn the television or radio antenna until the interference

 Move the computer to one side or the other of the
television or radio.
 Move the computer farther away from the television
or radio.
 Plug the computer in to an outlet that is on a dierent
circuit from the television or radio. (That is, make certain
the computer and the television or radio are on circuits
controlled by dierent circuit breakers or fuses.)
If necessary, consult an Apple Authorized Service Provider
or Apple. See the service and support information in the
Apple TV Setup Guide. Or consult an experienced radio/
television technician for additional suggestions.
Important: Changes or modications to this product not
authorized by Apple Inc. could void the EMC compliance and
negate your authority to operate the product.
This product has demonstrated EMC compliance under
conditions that included the use of compliant peripheral
devices and shielded cables (including Ethernet network
cables) between system components. It is important that
you use compliant peripheral devices and shielded cables
between system components to reduce the possibility of
causing interference to radios, television sets, and other
electronic devices.

1. General
(a) The software (including Boot ROM code and other
embedded software), documentation, interfaces, content,
fonts and any data that came with your Apple TV, whether
on disk, in read only memory, on any other media or in any
other form (collectively the “Apple Software”) are licensed,
not sold, to you by Apple Inc. (“Apple”) for use only under the
terms of this License. Apple and/or Apple’s licensor(s) retain
ownership of the Apple Software itself and reserve all rights
not expressly granted to you.
(b) Apple, at its discretion, may make available future updates
to the Apple Software for your Apple TV. The Apple Software
updates, if any, may not necessarily include all existing
software features or new features that Apple releases for
newer or other models of Apple TV. The terms of this License
will govern any software upgrades provided by Apple that
replace and/or supplement the original Apple Software
on your Apple TV, unless such upgrade is accompanied by
a separate license in which case the terms of that license
will govern.
2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions
(a) Subject to the terms and conditions of this License,
you are granted a limited non-exclusive license to use the
Apple Software on a single Apple-branded Apple TV. You
agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any
non-Apple-branded device, or to enable others to do so.
This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on
more than one device at a time, and you may not make the
Apple Software available over a network where it could be
used by multiple devices or multiple computers at the same
time. This License does not grant you any rights to use Apple
proprietary interfaces and other intellectual property in the
design, development, manufacture, licensing or distribution
of third party devices and accessories, or third party software
applications, for use with the Apple TV.
(b) You may not and you agree not to, or to enable others
to, copy (except as expressly permitted by this License),
decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, attempt to derive
the source code of, decrypt, modify, or create derivative works
of the Apple Software or any services provided by the Apple
Software, or any part thereof (except as and only to the extent
any foregoing restriction is prohibited by applicable law or to
the extent as may be permitted by licensing terms governing
use of open-sourced components included with the Apple
Software). Any attempt to do so is a violation of the rights of
Apple and its licensors of the Apple Software.
(c) The Apple Software may be used to reproduce materials
so long as such use is limited to reproduction of non-
copyrighted materials, materials in which you own the
copyright, or materials you are authorized or legally permitted
to reproduce. Title and intellectual property rights in and
to any content displayed by or accessed through the Apple
Software belongs to the respective content owner. Such
content may be protected by copyright or other intellectual
property laws and treaties, and may be subject to terms of
use of the third party providing such content. This License
does not grant you any rights to use such content nor
does it guarantee that such content will continue to be
available to you.
(d) You agree to use the Apple Software and the Services (as
dened in Section 5 below) in compliance with all applicable
laws, including local laws of the country or region in which
you reside or in which you download or use the Apple
Software and Services.
3. Transfer
You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense
the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time
permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple
Software to another party in connection with the transfer of
ownership of your Apple TV, provided that: (a) the transfer
must include your Apple TV and all of the Apple Software,
including all its component parts, original media, printed
materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies
of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored
on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party
receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the
terms and conditions of this License. All components of the
Apple Software are provided as part of a bundle and may not
be separated from the bundle and distributed as standalone
applications. Apple Software provided with a particular
Apple-branded hardware product may not run on other
models of Apple-branded hardware.
4. Consent to Use of Data
(a) Diagnostic and Usage Data. If you opt in to diagnostic
and usage collection, you agree that Apple and its
subsidiaries and agents may collect, maintain, process and
use diagnostic, technical, usage and related information,
including but not limited to technical information about
your Apple TV, computer, system and application software,
and peripherals, that is gathered periodically to facilitate the
provision of software updates, product support and other
services to you (if any) related to the Apple Software, and to
verify compliance with the terms of this License. Apple may
use this information, as long as it is collected in a form that
does not personally identify you, to provide and improve
Apple’s products and services. To enable Apple’s partners and
third party developers to improve their software, hardware
and services designed for use with Apple products, Apple
may also provide any such partner or third party developer
with a subset of diagnostic information that is relevant to that
partner’s or developer’s software, hardware and/or services, as
long as the diagnostic information is in a form that does not
personally identify you.
(b) Location Data. Apple and its partners and licensees may
provide certain services through your Apple TV that rely upon
location information. To provide and improve these services,
where available, Apple and its partners and licensees may
transmit, collect, maintain, process and use your location
data, including the real-time geographic location of your
Apple TV, and location search queries. The location data and
queries collected by Apple are collected in a form that does
not personally identify you and may be used by Apple and
its partners and licensees to provide and improve location-
based products and services. By using any location-based
services on your Apple TV, you agree and consent to Apple’s
and its partners’ and licensees’ transmission, collection,
maintenance, processing and use of your location data and
queries to provide and improve such products and services.
You may withdraw this consent at any time by disabling
the location-based features in the Apple TV. Not using these
location features will not impact the non location-based
functionality of your Apple TV. When using third party
applications or services on the Apple TV that use or provide
location data, you are subject to and should review such third
party’s terms and privacy policy on use of location data by
such third party applications or services.
(c) At all times your information will be treated in accordance
with Apple’s Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference
into this License and can be viewed at:
www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
5. Services and Third Party Materials
(a) The Apple Software may enable access to Apple’s iTunes
Store and other Apple and third party services and content
(collectively and individually, “Services”). Use of these Services
requires Internet access and use of certain Services may
require an Apple ID, require you to accept additional terms
and conditions, and may be subject to additional fees. By
using this software in connection with an iTunes Store
account, you agree to the latest iTunes Store Terms and
Conditions, which you may access and review at:

(b) Your use of the iCloud services is subject to the following
additional terms: iCloud Terms and Conditions available at
http://www.apple.com/legal/icloud/ww/ and Apple’s Privacy
Policy available at http://www.apple.com/privacy.
(c) You understand that by using any of the Services, you may
encounter content that may be deemed oensive, indecent,
or objectionable, which content may or may not be identied
as having explicit language, and that the results of any
search or entering of a particular URL may automatically and
unintentionally generate links or references to objectionable
material. Nevertheless, you agree to use the Services at
your sole risk and that Apple shall have no liability to you
for content that may be found to be oensive, indecent, or
objectionable.
(d) Certain Services may display, include or make available
content, data, information, applications or materials from third
parties (“Third Party Materials”) or provide links to certain
third party web sites. By using the Services, you acknowledge
and agree that Apple is not responsible for examining or
evaluating the content, accuracy, completeness, timeliness,
validity, copyright compliance, legality, decency, quality or
any other aspect of such Third Party Materials or web sites.
Apple, its ocers, aliates and subsidiaries do not warrant or
endorse and do not assume and will not have any liability or
responsibility to you or any other person for any third-party
Services, Third Party Materials or web sites, or for any other
materials, products, or services of third parties. Third Party
Materials and links to other web sites are provided solely as a
convenience to you.
(e) You agree that the Services contain proprietary content,
information and material that is owned by Apple and/or its
licensors, and is protected by applicable intellectual property
and other laws, including but not limited to copyright, and
that you will not use such proprietary content, information
or materials in any way whatsoever except for permitted use
of the Services or in any manner that is inconsistent with
the terms of this License or that infringes any intellectual

compliance with any applicable laws, including but not
limited to applicable local laws. Apple and its licensors reserve
the right to change, suspend, remove, or disable access to any
Services at any time without notice. In no event will Apple
be liable for the removal of or disabling of access to any such
Services. Apple may also impose limits on the use of or access
to certain Services, in any case and without notice or liability.
6. Termination
This License is eective until terminated. Your rights under
this License will terminate automatically or otherwise cease
to be eective without notice from Apple if you fail to comply
with any term(s) of this License. Upon the termination of
this License, you shall cease all use of the Apple Software.
Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 12 of this License shall survive any
such termination.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties

uses the Apple Software outside of your trade, business or

MADE AVAILABLE, THAT DEFECTS IN THE APPLE SOFTWARE
OR SERVICES WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT THE APPLE
SOFTWARE WILL BE COMPATIBLE OR WORK WITH ANY
THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE, APPLICATIONS OR THIRD PARTY
SERVICES. INSTALLATION OF THIS SOFTWARE MAY AFFECT
THE USABILITY OF THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE, APPLICATIONS
OR THIRD PARTY SERVICES.
7.5 YOU FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE APPLE
SOFTWARE AND SERVICES ARE NOT INTENDED OR SUITABLE
FOR USE IN SITUATIONS OR ENVIRONMENTS WHERE THE
FAILURE OR TIME DELAYS OF, OR ERRORS OR INACCURACIES

Software except as authorized by United States law and the
laws of the jurisdiction(s) in which the Apple Software was
obtained. In particular, but without limitation, the Apple
Software may not be exported or re-exported (a) into any U.S.
embargoed countries or (b) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury
Department’s list of Specially Designated Nationals or the
U.S. Department of Commerce Denied Person’s List or Entity
List. By using the Apple Software, you represent and warrant
that you are not located in any such country or on any such
list. You also agree that you will not use the Apple Software
for any purposes prohibited by United States law, including,
without limitation, the development, design, manufacture
or production of missiles, nuclear, chemical or biological
weapons.
10. Government End Users
The Apple Software and related documentation are
“Commercial Items”, as that term is dened at 48 C.F.R.
§2.101, consisting of “Commercial Computer Software”
and “Commercial Computer Software Documentation”,
as such terms are used in 48 C.F.R. §12.212 or 48 C.F.R.
§227.7202, as applicable. Consistent with 48 C.F.R. §12.212
or 48 C.F.R. §227.7202-1 through 227.7202-4, as applicable,
the Commercial Computer Software and Commercial
Computer Software Documentation are being licensed to U.S.
Government end users (a) only as Commercial Items and (b)
with only those rights as are granted to all other end users

11. Controlling Law and Severability
This License will be governed by and construed in accordance
with the laws of the State of California, excluding its conict
of law principles. This License shall not be governed by the
United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International
Sale of Goods, the application of which is expressly excluded.
If you are a consumer based in the United Kingdom, this
License will be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction
of your residence. If for any reason a court of competent
jurisdiction nds any provision, or portion thereof, to be
unenforceable, the remainder of this License shall continue in
full force and eect.
12. Complete Agreement; Governing Language
This License constitutes the entire agreement between you
and Apple relating to the Apple Software and supersedes all
prior or contemporaneous understandings regarding such
subject matter. No amendment to or modication of this
License will be binding unless in writing and signed by Apple.
Any translation of this License is done for local requirements
and in the event of a dispute between the English and any
non-English versions, the English version of this License
shall govern, to the extent not prohibited by local law in

software and other copyrighted material. Acknowledgements,
licensing terms and disclaimers for such material are

Apple Software, and your use of such material is governed by

B. Use of MPEG-4. This product is licensed under the
MPEG-4 Visual Patent Portfolio License for the personal and
non-commercial use of a consumer for (i) encoding video
in compliance with the MPEG-4 Visual Standard (“MPEG-4
Video”) and/or (ii) decoding MPEG-4 video that was encoded
by a consumer engaged in a personal and non-commercial
activity and/or was obtained from a video provider licensed

ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase by the
end-user purchaser (“Warranty Period”). Apple’s published
guidelines include but are not limited to information
contained in technical specications, user manuals and
service communications.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY? This warranty
does not apply to any non-Apple branded hardware
products or any software, even if packaged or sold with
Apple hardware. Manufacturers, suppliers, or publishers, other
than Apple, may provide their own warranties to you but
Apple, in so far as permitted by law, provides their products
“AS IS”. Software distributed by Apple with or without the
Apple brand (including, but not limited to system software)
is not covered by this warranty. Please refer to the licensing
agreement accompanying the software for details of your
rights with respect to its use. Apple does not warrant that the
operation of the Apple Product will be uninterrupted or error-
free. Apple is not responsible for damage arising from failure
to follow instructions relating to the Apple Product’s use.
This warranty does not apply: (a) to consumable parts, such
as batteries, unless failure has occurred due to a defect
in materials or workmanship; (b) to cosmetic damage,
including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken
plastic on ports; (c) to damage caused by use with another
product; (d) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse,
liquid contact, re, earthquake or other external cause; (e)
to damage caused by operating the Apple Product outside
Apple’s published guidelines; (f) to damage caused by
service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by
anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple
Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”); (g) to an Apple
Product that has been modied to alter functionality or
capability without the written permission of Apple; (h)
to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise
due to the normal aging of the Apple Product, or (i) if any
serial number has been removed or defaced from the

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES. IF YOUR APPLE PRODUCT IS
CAPABLE OF STORING SOFTWARE PROGRAMS, DATA AND
OTHER INFORMATION, YOU SHOULD MAKE PERIODIC BACKUP
COPIES OF THE INFORMATION CONTAINED ON THE STORAGE
MEDIA TO PROTECT THE CONTENTS AND AS A PRECAUTION
AGAINST POSSIBLE OPERATIONAL FAILURES.
Before receiving warranty service, Apple or its agents may
require that you furnish proof of purchase details, respond to
questions designed to assist with diagnosing potential issues
and follow Apple’s procedures for obtaining warranty service.
Before submitting your Apple Product for warranty service
you should maintain a separate backup copy of the contents
of its storage media, remove all personal information that you
want to protect and disable all security passwords.
DURING WARRANTY SERVICE IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE
CONTENTS OF THE APPLE PRODUCT’S STORAGE MEDIA
WILL BE LOST, REPLACED OR REFORMATTED. IN SUCH AN
EVENT APPLE AND ITS AGENTS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR
ANY LOSS OF SOFTWARE PROGRAMS, DATA OR OTHER
INFORMATION CONTAINED ON THE STORAGE MEDIA OR ANY
OTHER PART OF THE APPLE PRODUCT SERVICED.
Following warranty service your Apple Product or a
replacement product will be returned to you as your Apple
Product was congured when originally purchased, subject
to applicable updates. You will be responsible for reinstalling
all other software programs, data and information. Recovery
and reinstallation of other software programs, data and
information are not covered under this warranty.
WHAT WILL APPLE DO IN THE EVENT THE WARRANTY IS
BREACHED? If during the Warranty Period you submit a
valid claim to Apple or an AASP, Apple will, at its option, (i)
repair the Apple Product using new or previously used parts
that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability,
(ii) replace the Apple Product with a product that is at least
functionally equivalent to the Apple Product and is formed
from new and/or previously used parts that are equivalent to
new in performance and reliability, or (iii) exchange the Apple
Product for a refund of your purchase price.
Apple may request that you replace certain user-installable
parts or products. A replacement part or product, including
a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance
with instructions provided by Apple, assumes the remaining
warranty of the Apple Product or ninety (90) days from the
date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer
coverage for you. When a product or part is replaced or
a refund provided, any replacement item becomes your
property and the replaced or refunded item becomes
Apple’s property.
HOW TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE? Please access and
review the online help resources described below before
seeking warranty service. If the Apple Product is still not
functioning properly after making use of these resources,
please contact an Apple representative or, if applicable, an
Apple owned retail store (“Apple Retail”) or AASP, using the
information provided below. An Apple representative or AASP
will help determine whether your Apple Product requires
service and, if it does, will inform you how Apple will provide
it. When contacting Apple via telephone, other charges may
apply depending on your location.
Online information with details on obtaining warranty service
is provided below.
WARRANTY SERVICE OPTIONS. Apple will provide warranty
service through one or more of the following options:
(i) Carry-in service. You may return your Apple Product to
an Apple Retail or AASP location oering carry-in service.
Service will be performed at the location, or Apple Retail or
an AASP may send your Apple Product to an Apple Repair
Service (“ARS”) location to be serviced. Once you are notied
that service is complete, you will promptly retrieve the
Apple Product from the Apple Retail or AASP location, or
the Apple Product will be sent directly to your location from
the ARS location.
(ii) Mail-in service. If Apple determines that your Apple
Product is eligible for mail-in service, Apple will send you
prepaid waybills and if applicable, packaging material, so
that you may ship your Apple Product to an ARS or AASP
location in accordance with Apple’s instructions. Once service
is complete, the ARS or AASP location will return the Apple
Product to you. Apple will pay for shipping to and from your
location if all instructions are followed.
(iii) Do-it-yourself (DIY) parts service. DIY parts service allows
you to service your own Apple Product. If DIY parts service
is available in the circumstances, the following process
will apply.
(a) Service where Apple requires return of the replaced
product or part. Apple may require a credit card authorization
as security for the retail price of the replacement product
or part and applicable shipping costs. If you are unable to
provide credit card authorization, DIY parts service may
not be available to you and Apple will oer alternative
arrangements for service. Apple will ship a replacement
product or part to you with installation instructions, if
applicable, and any requirements for the return of the
replaced product or part. If you follow the instructions, Apple
will cancel the credit card authorization, so you will not be
charged for the product or part and shipping to and from
your location. If you fail to return the replaced product or
part as instructed or return a replaced product or part that is
ineligible for service, Apple will charge your credit card for the
authorized amount.
(b) Service where Apple does not require return of the
replaced product or part. Apple will ship you free of charge
a replacement product or part accompanied by instructions
on installation, if applicable, and any requirements for the
disposal of the replaced product or part.
(c) Apple is not responsible for any labor costs you incur
relating to DIY parts service. Should you require further
assistance, contact Apple at the telephone number listed
below.
Apple reserves the right to change the method by which
Apple may provide warranty service to you, and your Apple
Product’s eligibility to receive a particular method of service.
Service will be limited to the options available in the country
where service is requested. Service options, parts availability
and response times may vary according to country. You may
be responsible for shipping and handling charges if the Apple
Product cannot be serviced in the country it is in. If you seek
service in a country that is not the country of purchase, you
will comply with all applicable import and export laws and
regulations and be responsible for all custom duties, V.A.T.
and other associated taxes and charges. For international
service, Apple may repair or replace products and parts
with comparable products and parts that comply with local
standards.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN THIS
WARRANTY AND TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED
BY LAW, APPLE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DIRECT, SPECIAL,
INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING
FROM ANY BREACH OF WARRANTY OR CONDITION, OR
UNDER ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, INCLUDING BUT NOT
LIMITED TO LOSS OF USE; LOSS OF REVENUE; LOSS OF

APPLE PRODUCT OR ANY FAILURE TO MAINTAIN THE
CONFIDENTIALITY OF INFORMATION STORED IN THE APPLE
PRODUCT.
THE FOREGOING LIMITATION SHALL NOT APPLY TO DEATH
OR PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS, OR ANY STATUTORY LIABILITY
FOR INTENTIONAL AND GROSS NEGLIGENT ACTS AND/OR
OMISSIONS. APPLE DISCLAIMS ANY REPRESENTATION THAT IT
WILL BE ABLE TO REPAIR ANY APPLE PRODUCT UNDER THIS
WARRANTY OR REPLACE THE APPLE PRODUCT WITHOUT
RISK TO OR LOSS OF INFORMATION STORED ON THE APPLE
PRODUCT.
