12) Grounding or Polarization — This product may be equipped

with a polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one

blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet

only one way.This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the

plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug.If the plug should still

fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do

13) Power-Cord Protection — Power-supply cords should be

National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with

regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure,

grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of

grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit,

connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the

grounding electrode.

This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer’s

attention to Section 820-40 of the NEC which provides guidelines

for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable

ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building,

15) Lightning — For added protection for this product during a

lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long

periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the

antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the product

due to lightning and power-line surges.

16) Power Lines — An outside antenna system should not be

located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light

or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or

circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care

should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits

as contact with them might be fatal.

17) Overloading — Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords,

or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in risk of fire

or electric shock.

18) Object and Liquid Entry — Never push objects of any kind into

this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage

points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock.

Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.

19) Servicing — Do not attempt to service this product yourself as

opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage

or other hazards.Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

20) Damage Requiring Service — Unplug this product from the

wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under

a) when the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.

Before Use

OPlace the amplifier on a hard flat

surface.

OThe ventilation holes should not be

covered. Make sure there is at least 20

cm (8 inches) of space above and at

least 5 cm (2 inches) of space besides

the amplefier. Do not place CD player or

other equipment on top of the amplifier.

OAvoid placing it in direct sunlight or

close to a source of heat. Also avoid

locations subject to vibrations and

excessive dust, heat, cold or moisture.

ODo not open the cabinet, as this might

result in circuitry damage or electrical

shock.

ODo not attempt to clean the unit with

chemical solvents as this might damage

the finish. Use a clean, dry cloth.

IMPORTANT (for U.K. Customers)

DO NOT cut off the mains plug from this

equipment.

If the plug fitted is not

suitable for the power points in your

home or the cable is too short to reach

a power point, then obtain an

appropriate safety approved extension

lead or consult your dealer.

If nonetheless the mains plug is cut off,

remove the fuse and dispose of the plug

immediately, to avoid a possible shock

hazard by inadvertent connection to the

mains supply.

If this product is not provided with a

mains plug, or one has to be fitted,

then

follow the instructions given below:

IMPORTANT. DO NOT make any

connection to the larger terminal which

is marked with the letter E or by the

safety earth symbo

The wires in the mains lead on this

product are coloured in accordance

with the following code:

BLUE: NEUTRAL

BROWN: LIVE

As these colours may not correspond

with the coloured markings identifying

the terminals in your plug proceed as

follows:

The wire which is coloured BLUE must

be connected to the terminal which is

marked with the letter N or coloured

BLACK.

The wire which is coloured BROWN

must be connected to the terminal

which is marked with the letter L or

coloured RED.

When replacing the fuse only a

correctly rated approved type should

be used and be sure to re-fit the fuse

cover.

Connection

Speaker placement

The playback characteristics of the

speakers are greatly influenced by the

placement and the room in which the

speakers are used. To find the best

location for the speakers play back some

music without using the tone controls and

move the speakers around. However,

please keep the following in mind:

ODo not use this unit with it housed in a

box or the like including an audio rack.

To prevent damage to the speakers:

ODo not raise the volume level

excessively.

OTurn off the amplifier when connecting

or disconnecting.

ODo not touch the speaker's diaphragms.

OPlace the speakers on a flat, solid

surface which is free from vibrations.

OPlace the speakers in an area that is

well ventilated. Do not place the

speakers in a humid place.

OKeep the speakers away from direct

sunlight and heat sources (stoves, etc.).

OKeep the speakers away from the

turntable.

Rear Panel Overview

1Right speaker terminals

2Remote control jacks

These jacks are used for the connection of

the TEAC Mini component system (T-H500,

R-H500, PD-H500) for the purpose of

operating it using the Remote Control unit

(RC-613 provided with the A-H500

amplifier) or system control signals.

3Signal ground terminal

Connect the ground lead of the record

player (turntable) to this terminal.

4AC OUTLETS (unswitched)

Plug the AC power cord of the source unit

(CD player, cassette deck, etc.) into this AC

OUTLETS.

5Audio signal jacks:

O MD/TAPE 2 PLAY/REC jacks

These jacks are used for the connection

of the MD player or the second cassette

deck.

Connect the output (LINE OUT) jacks of

the MD player or cassette deck to the

PLAY jacks; the input (LINE IN) jacks of

the MD player or cassette deck to the

REC jacks.

O TAPE 1 PLAY/REC jacks

Connec the output (LINE OUT) jacks of

the cassette deck (R-H500) to the PLAY

jacks; the input (LINE IN) jacks of the

cassette deck to the REC jacks

O CD input jacks

Connec the output (LINE OUT) jacks of

the CD player (PD-H500) to these jacks.

O TUNER input jacks

Connect the output (LINE OUT) jacks of

the tuner (T-H500) to these jacks.

O AUX input jacks

Connec the output jacks of the VCR or

other AUXiliary source unit to these

jacks.

O PHONO input jacks

Connect the output jacks of the record

player (turntable) to these jacks.

Note:

Make sure that you connect the white

pin-plug to the white jacks (left); red

pin-plug to the red jacks (right).

6AC power cord

Plug this AC power cord into an AC wall

socket.

7Main power switch

Press the ON side of this rocker (seesaw)

switch to turn the power ON (standby

position); press the OFF side to turn the

power off.

Note:

Leave this main power switch ON at all

times.

8Left speaker terminals

∑Speaker Connection

Before connecting

OCheck the impedance of your speakers.

Connect speaker with an impedance of 4

to 16 ohms.

The amplifier's red speaker terminals

are the

≠ (positive) terminals and the

black terminals are the

– (negative)

terminals.

OThe ≠ side of the speaker cable is

marked to make it distinguishable from

the

– side of the cable. Connect this

marked side to the red

≠ terminal and

the unmarked side to the black terminal.

OPrepare the speaker cords for

connection by stripping off

approximately 1 cm or less (no more as

this could cause a short-circuit) of the

outer insulation.

∑How to connect

(1) Twist the wires tightly together so that

they are not straggly.

(2) Turn the terminal cap counterclockwise

to loosen it.

The speaker termianl caps cannot be

fully removed from the base.

(3) Insert the wire into the terminal fully

and turn the terminal cap clockwise to

securely connect it.

(4) Make sure it is fastened firm by pulling

the cord lightly.

Front Panel Controls and Their Functions

8CD direct button

Press this button for the pure sound when

you listen to the CD, and then the tone and

balance controls are bypassed.

Press it again to resume the controls.

Note:

When the CD direct function is engaged,

no signal is output to the TAPE REC

outputs. Therefore, when recording, set

the CD direct button to OFF (the indicator

above the button is unlit).

9Treble control

This control is used for adjusting the level

of the high frequency sound range.

0Bass control

This control is used for adjusting the level

of the low frequency sound range.

qBalance control

This control is used for adjusting the

balance of the volume level between the

left and right channels.

wHeadphones jack (phones)

Connect the headphones plug to this jack

for listening through headphones.

Sound from the speakers will not be heard

when headphones are connected to this

jack.

Note:

Decrease the volume level to minimum

(∞position) before connecting head-

phones.

tape 1∏2/MD:

Set to this position to record from the

cassette deck 1 to 2 or MD recorder.

MD/tape 2∏1:

Set to this position to record from the MD

player or cassette deck 2 to 1.

5Volume control

This control is used for adjusting the signal

output level to the speakers.

6Input selector

Rotate this selector to select the desired

input source.

MD/tape 2:

For listening to the sound from the unit

connected to the MD/TAPE 2 jacks on the

rear panel.

tape 1:

For listening to tape.

CD:

For listening to CD.

tuner:

For listening to radio broadcast.

phono:

For listening to record.

aux:

For listening to the sound from the unit

connected to the AUX jacks on the rear

panel.

7CD direct indicator

This indicator will light up when the CD

direct function is engaged.

1Power standby/on button

When the main power switch on the rear

panel is ON:

Press this button to turn the power on, and

the whole system connected by the remote

control connection cables is turned on.

Press it again to turn the system off (power

standby mode).

Note:

The system cannot be turned on when the

main power switch on the rear panel is

OFF.

2Power standby indicator

This indicator lights up in the power

standby mode and goes out when this unit

is turned on.

3Remote control signal sensor

This sensor receives the signal from the

remote control transmitter.

4Record selector

Set this selector to the appropriate position

before beginning recording.

Basic Operation

1 Set the volume control to ∞ position

before beginning.

2 POWER

Turn the system on by pressing the

power button.

3 Select the source you want to listen to

by rotating the input selector knob.

4 Operate the source unit to be played.

(Refer to the operating instructions of

each unit.)

5 Adjust the volume level.

Recording

1 Set the rec selector to source.

2 Select a source to be recorded using

the input selector.

3 Play the source.

4 Set the tape deck to the recording

mode.

ORecording is possible using both tape 1

and tape 2 decks.

∑Dubbing (Recording from tape 1

to MD/tape 2 or vice versa)

1.Set the rec selector to tape 1 > 2/MD (or

MD/tape 2 > 1).

2. Play tape 1 (or MD/tape 2) deck.

3.Set MD/tape 2 (or tape 1) to the

recording mode.

Notes:

OWhen dubbing is attempted using two R-

H500s, be sure not to connect the

remote cable to the tape 2 deck. If it is

connected, dubbing is not possible.

OWhen a second deck such as another R-

H500 is connected to the MD/TAPE 2 REC

terminal on the amplifier, dubbing from

deck 1 to deck 2 is possible. However,

remote-controlled operation of deck 2 is

not possible. Therefore, do not connect

the remote cable from deck 1 to deck 2.

OWhen dubbing from deck 1 to deck 2 (or

MD recorder), set the rec selector on

the amplifier to tape 1 > 2/MD, then start

deck 2 (or MD recorder) for recording

and press the play button of deck 1.

(Do not connect the remote cable.)

Remote Control Operation

The provided Remote Control Unit allows

the unit to be operated from a distance.

When operating the remote control unit,

point it towards the remote sensor on the

front panel of the unit.

Press to turn the system on.

2Power [standby] button

Press to turn the system off.

3Indicator

This indicator will blink when the remote

control signal is transmitted by pressing

the button.

Note:

The indicator has two colors:

One is green in the CD mode; the other is

red in other mode.

5Numeric buttons

These buttons are used for selecting the

preset channel in the tuner mode, or the

track number in the CD mode.

OUsing the input selector buttons, select

CD or tuner before operating the

numeric buttons.

When entering a single-digit number, enter

0 for 10's digit followed by the desired 1's

digit.

When entering a double-digit number, first

enter 10's digit then 1's digit.

Example)To enter 15:

(1) Press "1", and "1" starts blinking.

(2) While it is blinking, press "5".

∑How to load the batteries

(Optional)

1. Slide the battery compartment cover in

the direction of the arrow and remove it.

2. Load two "AAA" (R03, UM-4) dry

batteries according to the polarity

guides on the remote control unit.

3. Replace the battery compartment cover.

For the batteries

OWhen you do not plan to use the remote

control for a long period of time, remove

the batteries.

ORead the cautions printed on the

batteries before inserting them.

OWhen replacing the batteries, replace

them all at the same time. Do not mix old

batteries with new ones.

OEven if the remote control unit is

operated within the effective range,

remote control operation may be

impossible if there are any obstacles

between the unit and the remote control.

OIf the remote control unit is operated

near other appliances which generate

infrared rays, or if other remote control

devices using infrared rays are used

near the unit, the unit may operate

incorrectly. In the reverse way, the other

appliances may operate incorrectly.

AI Direct Play Function

1. When you turn on the system, the

source unit that has been selected by

the input selector will start playing

automatically.

This AI direct play function allows you to

restart operation using the source unit

(tape deck, CD player or tuner) when

power was last turned off.

For example:

(1) When the system is switched off with

the input selector set to the CD position

and a disc loaded on the CD player.

(2) Next time you switch the power on,

T (3) the CD player will start playing

automatically from the first track on the

disc.

2. When you select the desired source by

rotating the input selector, the selected

source unit will start playing

automatically.

For example:

(1) While you are listening to CD T (2) If

you select tape 1,

Positionnement des enceintes

Les caractéristiques de reproduction

sonore des enceintes sont fortement

influencées par la position des enceintes

et la pièce dans laquelle elles sont

placées. Pour définir le meilleur

emplacement pour les enceintes, écouter

un certain nombre de titres sans utiliser les

commandes de réglage de la tonalité et

faites des essais en plaçant les enceintes

à différents endroits. Veillez toutefois à

toujours respecter les consignes

suivantes:

ONe jamais installé la chaîne à l’intérieur

d’un endroit fermé tel qu’un carton, une

caisse ou un meuble audio fermé.

Pour éviter d’abîmer les enceintes:

ONe réglez pas le volume trop fort.

OEteignez l’amplificateur avant de le

brancher ou de le débrancher.

OEvitez de toucher les membranes des

haut-parleurs.

OPlacez les enceintes sur une surface

plane stable et non exposée aux

vibrations.

OPlacez les enceintes dans un endroit

bien ventilé et à l’abri de l’humidité.

OEvitez d’exposer les enceintes à la

lumière directe du soleil ou à proximité

d’une source de chaleur (appareil de

chauffage, etc.).

OPlacez les enceintes à une bonne

distance du tourne-disques.

Branchez le cordon d’alimentation sur une

prise murale CA.

(Marche) pour mettre l’appareil sous

tension (position veille); positionnez le sur

OFF pour éteindre l’appareil.

AVERTISSEMENT: Laissez en permanence

l’interrupteur principal sur ON.

Avant d’effectuer les raccordements

OVérifiez l’impédance des enceintes.

Vous pouvez brancher des enceintes

ayant une impédance de 4 à 16 ohms.

Sur l’amplificateur les bornes rouges «

(1) Torsadez les fils ensemble pour éviter

qu’ils ne partent dans tous les sens.

(2) Dévisser le bornier en tournant dans le

sens inverse des aiguilles d’une montre.

Il n’est pas possible de le retirer

complètement.

(3) Insérer le fil à fond dans la borne.

Resserrez le bornier en le tournant dans

le sens des aiguilles d’une montre pour

bien bloquer le fil.

(4) Assurez-vous que le fil est bien fixé en

place en tirant légèrement sur le

cordon.

Commandes et fonctions du panneau avant

8Touche « CD direct »

Appuyez sur cette touche pour obtenir un

son pur à partir d’un CD. Les commandes

de tonalité et de balance sont alors

désactivées.

Appuyez de nouveau sur cette touche pour

réactiver ces commandes.

Nota:

Lorsqu’on sélectionne la fonction « CD

direct », aucun signal de sortie n’est

envoyé vers les sorties TAPE REC (sortie

cassette). Par conséquent, lorsque vous

effectuez un enregistrement, placez le

bouton « CD direct » sur OFF (le voyant

situé au-dessus du bouton reste éteint).

9Contrôle des aigus

Cette commande permet de régler le

niveau sonore dans la gamme des

fréquences aiguës.

Cette commande sert à régler le niveau

sonore dans la gamme des fréquences

Cette commande permet d’équilibrer le

niveau sonore entre les canaux droit et

wPrise de casque (écouteurs)

Branchez la fiche casque sur cette prise

pour écouter à l’aide d’écouteurs.

Lorsque les écouteurs sont branchés sur

cette prise aucun son ne sort des

enceintes.

REMARQUE:

Baissez le volume au minimum (position ∞)

avant de brancher les écouteurs du

casque.

« off »:

Placez le sélecteur sur cette position

lorsque vous n’enregistrez pas.

Placez le sélecteur sur cette position pour

enregistrer de la platine cassette 1 à la 2

ou à l’enregistreur MD.

5Réglage du volume

Ce bouton permet de régler le niveau de

sortie du signal vers les enceintes.

Ce voyant s’allume lorsqu’on active la

fonction « CD direct ».

(Marche / Veille)

L’interrupteur principal situé à l’arrière de

l’appareil étant positionné sur position ON

(sous tension):

Appuyez sur cette touche pour mettre

l’appareil en marche. L’ensemble des

éléments de la chaîne reliée par les câbles

de raccordement de la télécommande est

mis en marche.

Appuyez de nouveau sur la touche pour

arrêter l’appareil (mode veille).

REMARQUE:

Il n’est pas possible de mettre l’appareil en

marche lorsque l’interrupteur principal

situé sur le panneau arrière est sur OFF.

2Voyant « veille »

Ce voyant s’allume quand l’appareil est en

« veille»; il s’éteint lorsqu’on met l’appareil

en marche.

3Détecteur du signal de

télécommande

(« remote sensor »)

Ce capteur reçoit le signal émis par la

télécommande.

4Sélecteur d’enregistrement («

rec selector »)

Placez ce sélecteur sur la position

appropriée avant de commencer à

Fonctionnement de base

1 Régler la commande de volume sur ∞

avant toute opération.

Mettre l’appareil sous tension en

appuyant sur la touche « power »

(alimentation).

3 Sélectionnez la source que vous voulez

4 Allumer l’appareil que vous voulez

OVous pouvez enregistrer indifféremment

sur la platine cassette 1 ou sur la platine

2, ceci rendant toute copie impossible.

OEn branchant un deuxième

magnétophone, (un second R-H500 par

exemple), sur la prise MD/TAPE 2 REC de

l’amplificateur, il est possible d’ effectuer

une copie du magnétophone 1 sur le

magnétophone 2. Il n’est en revanche

pas possible de commander le

magnétophone 2 à l’aide de la

télécommande. Il est par conséquent

inutile de connecter le câble de la

télécommande du magnétophone 1 au

magnétophone 2.

OPour copier du magnétophone 1 sur le

magnétophone 2 (ou sur l’enregistreur

MD), réglez le sélecteur rec

(enregistrement) de l’amplificateur sur

Tape 1 > 2/MD, puis démarrez le

magnétophone 2 (ou l’enregistreur MD)

pour commencer l’enregistrement et

appuyez sur la touche Lecture du

magnétophone 1.

(Ne pas brancher le câble pour la télécommande.)

l’intérieur du compartiment à piles de la

télécommande.

3. Remettez le couvercle du compartiment

à piles en place.

Précautions à prendre pour les piles

ORetirez les piles de la télécommande

quand vous prévoyez de ne pas l’utiliser

pendant longtemps.

OLisez les avertissements figurant sur les

piles avant de les mettre en place dans

la télécommande.

OQuand vous remplacez les piles,

remplacez-les toutes en même temps.

N’utilisez jamais en même temps des

piles neuves et des piles usagées.

OMême si le boîtier de télécommande est

activé dans la zone de fonctionnement,

la commande à distance peut être

impossible s'il y a des obstacles entre

l’appareil et le boîtier de télécommande.

OSi le boîtier de télécommande

fonctionne dans le voisinage d'autres

appareils générant des rayons

infrarouges, ou si d'autres

télécommandes utilisant des rayons

infrarouges sont utilisées près de

l’appareil, l’appareil peut de ne pas bien

fonctionner. Dans la situation inverse,

les autres appareils peuvent ne pas bien

fonctionner.

Fonction AI: lecture directe

1. Quand vous allumez la chaîne, l’appareil

choisi comme source sonore à l’aide du

sélecteur d’entrée se met

automatiquement en mode lecture.

La fonction AI de lecture directe permet

de resélectionner automatiquement le

même appareil que celui sélectionné

lorsqu’on a arrêté la chaîne la dernière

fois.

Exemple:

(1) Si, lorsque vous arrêtez la chaîne le

sélecteur d’entrée est positionné sur CD

et qu’un disque est chargé dans le

lecteur,

T (2) la prochaine fois que vous

allumerez la chaîne,

T (3) le lecteur de

CD se mettra automatiquement en

marche et lira la première plage du

disque.

2. Lorsque vous choisissez la source

désirée à l’aide du sélecteur d’entrée,

l’appareil choisi se met

automatiquement en marche.

Par exemple:

(1) Pendant que vous êtes en train

d’écouter un CD,

(2) si vous

sélectionnez « tape 1 » (platine

cassette n° 1),

(3) la cassette de la

platine n° 1 se met automatiquement en

marche et le lecteur de CD s’arrête.

Aufstellung der

Die Wiedergabeeigenschaften der

Lautsprecherboxen werden in großem

Maße durch ihre Aufstellung und durch die

akustischen Raumeigenschaften

beeinflußt. Um die besten Aufstellungsorte

für Ihre Boxen zu ermitteln, geben Sie,

während Sie die Boxen an verschiedenen

Positionen aufstellen, Musik wieder.

Denken Sie hierbei jedoch an folgendes:
